I love my nimble 1.6 in the caddy <----
Im going to Revo next week for the 1.6 remap
Cant wait, allready love the 1.6 compared to the older 1.9 which I had in my last caddy. APR mapped that and it was still lacking in any life

I will be going to Shark Performance for any mapping, best vag diesel mappers in Europe imo (and a lot of mappers opinions too  )

Had the 1.6 TDi's in both Golf and A3 format at work. No complaints.
Strange how they're only 5 speed though if they're an economy option.
Driven a new shape Exclusiv Ecoflex Astra 1.7 CDTi. About 100ps. Feels well nippy.

And I can't help but think the 1.6TDi is new tech, wi the 2.0TDi just being a reincarnation of the 1.9TDI which has been around since 2000-ish.

They really aren't. Yeah they can make turbo kits but the mapping is awful, and most of the maps they do is through trial and error instead of calculations. They tried to rip off some Shark stuff. Most maps in this country, Europe and USA originate from Shark maps (for VAG stuff). Unlike a lot of mappers they will actually map the car within all the hardware limits, and not just say oh the clutch will slip unless its new like many do.

New 2.0 stuff is completely different. The first 2.0 were PD engines (like the 1.9s) but later moved to common rail tech along with other bits

I read something a while ago about the pd being a better technology than the common rail but something to do with cost/emissions meant it wasn't developed any further.

I'm sure I have seen that too, the pd tends to be noisy and less refined in comparison to a cr unit too

I am looking at an A3 54 plate 2.0 tdi se
I believe the way to tell difference between the 140 / 170 is if the exhaust is angled down or straight.
anything else to look for?

For the older vag stuff maybe, they have nothing on APR or Revo on the new stuff
