I wasn't disagreeing with you John, I see your point as well.

Was just trying to clarify what Robin was pointing out which, no matter how you look at it, is technically correct.

I totally see what you're getting at John but in actual fact if his original measurement was wrong, that isn't what should change, everything thereafter should be adjusted to suit.

If you define something as 100, and divide the bit between 0 and 100 into 100 equally sized chunks, it doesn't matter how inaccurate it is, you've defined it already at those points.

Nobody can decide its not correct.

It's not that water actually boils at 99.98c, it's that 100c is in fact 99.98c

water doesnt boil at 100, it changes state at 100. for it to still be water it would have to be less than 100 or it would be steam

Water does boil at 100. The fact that there's still water in the container just means that that water is not yet at 100 degrees.
