first thing I thought when i read it was I bet people selling alu tax disc holders are livid

I cant see it been a bad thing apart from finding out how much tax a car has when buying and selling etc.
Need to have a DVLA site that you can put a reg in and see how much tax a car has or add it to the HPI type things

About time this happened. In this day and age, it was absolutely ridiculous having a bit of paper on your windscreen to prove your car is taxed.

direct debit option is also good.

Also, with regards to tax disc holders, i'll still need one to hold my work pass, so I can get through the security gates.

I imagine quite a few others also have that.

We have to display an mot disc as well as a tax disc over here, should scrap that too

That little paper disc is the only tangible thing you have to show for your hundreds of pounds.

It's an important token.

Take that away and it's just a 100% like you've been mugged. And helped them do it too.

Good to get rid of paper discs.

Like that direct debits are available.

Don't understand why a system of automatic collections costs an extra 5%.
Even the money grabbing energy companies give you a direct debit discount.

We'd only end up paying more and we pay a fortune for motoring as it is. It did annoy me about the Mazda though

My only issue with this enforces the use of ANPR, as I understand that unless a manual check on a plate is done via radio then you would only be able to assume someone has paid tax.

So, whilst this gets set up and running, I can see a lot of people trying to get away with this blaming the new system.

I also think that more people will get away with not taxing a car as it relys on a bobby driving past your car randomly.

I do however love the idea of spreading this cost across the 12months.

ANPR is already everywhere, so 'starting up' isn't an issue.

Infact, it's probably the reason they've left it this long before ditching them.
