No. The adhesive is much stickier and doesn't dry out, it's also more flexible and stretchy which is good for curves.

Selotaping your car to prevent stone chips FPSML

Just a note...... Stone chips are unsightly but not noticeable to anyone but the owner. Driving with blue tape on your car makes you look like a grade A bell end.

Personally I don't have a problem with it! Can see why people have thier opinions about it but technically it's just going to and from a show so it doesn't really matter how it looks! Unfortunately Thomas we can't all just pull our car into the bodyshop for a respray

Flaffy the clear stuff is brilliant but you wouldn't be able to get it to completely cover everything! But I will be getting some for the bottom of my doors as the Porsche wheels have peppered the sides of my car

You can get full car wraps in the stuff mate. And you can get bloody good quality stuff that doesn't make your paintwork look shite
Infact I'm 99% sure I've seen Rich H do a write up about a car he detailed that was covered in the stuff.

This all seems similar to keeping the plastic covers on the sofa so they stay nice.

Do people still actually build cars that only get driven to and from shows though? I bet the numbers for that are extremely low now a days.

As Tom said loads of people do it! As for me, my cars getting a full respray next month! Il obviously wax it up but when travelling any long distances I will tape it up but for daily use I won't! However I only use my car on weekends etc as I've got my van

I thought the show scene had died out years ago, personally I wish it would as personally I think its a waste of money but its obviously making money for Tomnova16 so it would be a shame for those in the game.

Ben your so pessimistic, no no amount of scene tape is going to stop that boulder im afraid, but it will stop the majority of stone chips you would have been getting on the run up to hitting the boulder!

And why is spending £10er on a couple of rolls of tape wasting money as appose to respraying your bumper each month?

Who resprays their bumper every month? Cars are for using. 1 stonechip will not harm the car.

That counts for every car, including exotica and collectors items.

Nooo but when you could keep your front bumper stonechip free more or less for £10 for some tape whats so bad with that? Its not all the time?

My Vectra is 13 years old and has near enough 100k driving miles on it, and its not stone chipped. My GF's 307 is 12 years old with 70k driving miles on it, and the bumper isn't stone chipped either. Credit to the painter.

People need to get a grip and stop worrying.
