I don't see how your only chance of a holiday is touring if the two of you are going to have 7 weeks off in the summer? Obviously it's something you enjoy but that bit kind of confused me.
I've got to agree with Nic and say the t4 would be my choice unfortunately - a mate had one that he converted from a van himself like you're doing. Rock n roll bed, full cooker and stove, space heater on a thermostat and, le piece de resistance, shag pile on every surface lol. He sold that one and the last I heard he bought another to do the same, only this time he's somehow making it so that his motorbike can also go in the back. He's pretty mental

Had a quick peak at one today. Overall fairly impressed. Didn't get to drive it though and it was an auto petrol that I don't really want. Reminded me of mums old a140 though which was a pretty good little car for the purpose it was bought for. Not much in the rust front either
Gunna have a think about it this week. Fairly sure that if the T2 goes I'm this could replace it.

Couldn't you consider a caravan? Then you could leave it on a site and drive around in your car? Caravan will also be higher spec for the money

Dave, I went to Thailand for two and a bit weeks and it cost me about £1100. That's going to be a better experience than buying a shonkey old van for 4 weeks in this country.

What I loved was the lack of pre-defined route. We booked 4 days worth of campsites in advance in the 3 months we were away. When we were somewhere we got the map out and went oo look we could drive there tomorrow instead of doing that. We ended up in Barcelona doing that

Well I've been looking for a LWB (not XLWB) one of these with low mileage for a realistic price for nearly a year on and off.. I found one! Disabled owner so its not got intergalactic mileage!
Its got a few marks on it, mostly on the rear end but its a decent spec, leather (annoyingly four captain seats!), command (satnav, reversing camera, tv etc), tints, auto, 80k miles..
The plan is to turn it into a Day van if I can find a pop-top that isn't INSANELY priced.
