You are almost married with kids, which is completely different.
You haven't had to earn any if that money, which is completely different.

If you earn £12k more than her and she used to earn £9k more than you... You must be on atleast £21k+ and living at home - stop being a tight cunt

I honestly don't see how it's tight, everyone has stuff to pay for. £30 here and there all adds up when you're trying to save up to move out!

I had to as its so true. 4 year relationship, quibbling over £12.
Dude, man up, the pair of you, your destined for utter failure. Does she know what give and take is. Bloody hell if I stressed about £12 we'd have broken up after a few days.
I can imagine you both after a meal, calculators open on the phone, working out every single penny owed
Flaffy sounds like the most normal person to reply here.

open a joint one and use it but agree to put same in each month, not 50 though if you are planning to move in together you may as well use it to save up in so 500 plus.
I used to manage house finances like this with the missus, now we put all our wages in but keep 400 a month back each that goes in our own accounts to spend on what we want, that way I can waste my coin on car and she can hammer asos etc without resentment, works for us.

Brilliant, someone finally seems to get it!
I'd be fine with putting in more, but she can't afford it atm... I proposed this to her btw, also stating she could put in whatever she wanted and I'd just match it. She wasn't opposed to the idea at all, so I'll have to do a bit of research now.

I'm still a bit worried by the running-out-of-money thing in the main accounts.
If its that tight, the very last thing you want to do is have money sitting in another account somewhere.

one of the reasons we've switched to how we do it now as we have a cash ack credit card attached to main account and with other half going daft buying and sending stuff back it was getting hard to manage effectively. Now we have switched ways and we have our own spending money shes wasting far less.

It's not really about how much money it is, it could be £50, £500 or £5,000... it's all about managing what you do have.
Also, I don't consider wanting my £12 tight at all. If we're buying a takeaway for both of us, why should she have to pay for the whole thing? It's absolutely right I give her my half

I'd strongly disagree with wanting your £12 back not being tight But each to their own.

Which actually means leaving it where it was in order to pay what is coming out of your main account.

12 quid I usually pay for the meal whenever we go out. The odd occasion she pays. I earn over double what she does so seems fair.

Fair would she pays for your meals in a 2:1 ratio..
eg you pay for 2 meals she pays for 1 and so on

We just take in turns.
However, if it works for you both then carry on, I don't think the original question was "how should we manage our money"

Fair is not worrying about things like £12 for a takeaway. It all averages out over time anyway.

Yeah taking turns would be fine too, pretty much the same thing though.
Our 'tightness' isn't an issue... because we both believe it's perfectly right to go into things 50/50. Sure is interesting to hear other peoples opinions though! Honestly thought everyone was the same lol.
