Doubt they do, I think the whole argument is the animal needs to be 100% alert so it can hear the prayers
It's a matter of interpretation, some believe the animal should be conscious/aware and some don't.

Weird thing is that it's Muslims who eat halal, the 'towel heads' I'm assuming's directed towards guys who wear turbans - Sikhs, who are not allowed to eat any meat killed in a ritualistic way.

So you must admit using towel head, to mean an Arab, to describe someone who eats halal is just ignorant racism? I'm not usually bothered about casual racism as long as it's got some humour injected, just plain ignorance kind of annoys me. Especially when you realise most Sikhs actually hold quite similar values to white Christian people. Every heard of the Ghurkas? Indian Sikhs who fought for this country in the war. Painting them with the same brush as Islamic Muslims is something I see all too often.

I'm not wanting to make too much of a song and dance but I've got plenty of Sikh friends and nothing pisses them off more than being mistaken for a Muslim. Imagine you went to Saudi Arabia and everyone mistook you for a jew? It wouldn't offend you so much as piss you right off that people are making an assumption based on the colour of your skin
