I use NTFS and have no problems with it. Better than FAT16/32 IMHO.

ffs, when xp installs it will have to format the drive in ntfs anyway, whats the point in doing a full format, then install xp? unless you'd rather stick with a less secure fat 32 fs.

and quick format doesn't remove the data, it just makes it appear as though there is no data, and acts as though it is free space

may not be required, but may be. cable modem? it helps a little i guess. also, xp is designed for ntfs. if some1 isnt computer literate, it isn't going to make it any easier for them to recover data in a sys failure with fat 32 because they wont know how to do it anyway.

i aint installed xp in fat 32, but one of my mates who did said it was nowt but trouble

I have a cable modem and FAT32, NTFS won't make any difference to anyone hacking into your computer? No one sets up file permissions on a local drive at home?
XP isn't designed for NTFS, and if you use FAT32 you can put a DOS boot disk in and access the hard drive. If its NTFS you have to get NTFS for DOS and you have to know the syntax to access the drive once the PC reconises the drives.
The only benefit to the home user is it doesn't fragment and quickly as FAT32.
