Once the press instigate an idea it doesn't usually end well. You've got breach of copyright for people takings pics of football stadia to add to it as well. Which apparently could cause panic amongst fans at the matches

Yes because they can be used in the same way

They can be used in a better way..
If I put a camera on a pole and peer through your windows you probably wont even notice, if I walked around with a back pack full of doom you'll not blink an eye.
Where as on the other hand if a noisy as f**k quad-copter is flying outside your house you're going to notice it and its the same with a multi-copter carrying a big payload, its going to make lots of noise and be very obvious.

Not sure I've ever seen a stick that can drop something or spy from a remote location.
It's a massive overreaction as always, but with the amount of nut jobs about, I can almost see the point.

This stuff has been around for years, its just becoming main-stream as normal retailers like Maplin are stocking the gear..
I've been flying this shit for years, and its not half as scary/capable as the media would have you believe.
The amount of actual 'payload' you could do anything with would be pathetic.
As for spying its not exactly subtle!

I know how long they've been available for and what they are/aren't capable of.
It's not scary at all but it's definitely capable of someone remotely doing something bad, which you can't with a stick.
The fact it's more mainstream makes it even easier to get away with the bad stuff because no-one is paying attention.

The new version will be more expensive but DJI always price-crash the out-going version.

The 'follow me' technology is there and works well, the issue now is sense and avoid because you don't want it flying into stuff

Talking of Phantoms.. I took mine with me to Ryde this weekend and had a chance to fly for the first time in about 2 months so I threw this together as we were staying at a friends cottage:
