These look like good buys at the minute.

I keep looking at them on eBay but i can't justify getting rid off a 2010 car for something 4/5 years older. I'm also worried about the fuel figures as ideally i want something that does more than my current 40ish MPG.

Anything auto and registered after 23rd March 06, tax is loads.

I hope you find a good one!

This sums things up nicely.

F*cking piles of crap.

Seen so much trouble and so many design/engineering issues, on so many models, over such a long period of time, that I almost wouldn't have one as a gift.

Imo you've gotta be a bit of a masochist to run one really.

Isn't the Evoque just a Freelander with a silly body though John?

Not experienced any brand new LR stuff, but then I suppose maybe even Land Rover can muster a bit of reliability for the first twelve months or so of their vehicles' lives.

Probably not much longer though

Aside from what turned out to be a bad remap, I loved the one we had. Economy was actually reasonable given the weight of the thing, especially on longer journeys and to be fair wasn't that much worse than her current TT225. Very comfortable, very capable, especially useful with the option for the two extra seats. Compared to the ex's RR vogue, I had lots more room in it as well. Did a 1700mile round trip to the alps in it and I couldn't think of another car I'd rather use.

2.7TDV6 can be sluggish for the weight of the thing, Beth's mum has the same HSE model as we had albeit 2 years newer and it is definitely sluggish, however, the benefit of our bad remap was that by comparison, ours with the same spec and engine flew. I would definitely have another if the opportunity arises, although I love the new sport and RR as well.

In the two years that we had it, it was pretty much trouble free and the only issue which every internet expert put down to being the gearbox/oil cooler/torque convertor fault and no mechanic, specialist or gearbox place could track down, turned out to be a bad section on the remap between 3,000 and 3,500RPM. Owner after us tracked it down by putting it on a rolling road. Looking back and noting the difference between it and the mother in law's, I wish we'd done the same and kept hold of it as I loved it.

Take up the carpet under the back seats, there's a couple of recesses in the floor which can fill with water and can't drain. In one recess there are a load of electrical connections which can give you misery and in general, sitting with water in, they can rot. Check the rear seats work, if you buy one, have a lesson from the previous owner on lifting but more importantly folding away the seats as they're not obvious.

Silly things like the tow bar being removable, check it is actually sold with the car and f it is fitted, check it's not seized as it's a bastard to remove if it is. Also, if it is fitted, check that the cover plate is with the car for when you do remove it.

Side steps make a massive difference, most are after market, ours were rather than LR official so check they've not been fitted by a muppet, there's no reason for having to drill into the chassis but some we looked at had self tappers holding them on. If it has TVs, check the receiver isn't damaged on the roof - lots got ripped off on car park barriers etc.
Suspension adjustment is a must to check.

There is a lot of hate for these cars yet they can't be that bad as I see about 5-6 a day round where I live. Going Essex in the week to look at a landrover fsh one with some nice extras. See how that goes.

The hate, in general, comes from people who haven't owned one but have jumped on the internet bandwagon of them being shit with no really knowledge to back it up.

Had this discussion before rich, they've got the reputation because they break, expensively, all the time. Good cars outside of that.

Bloke in work bought one of these recently. Keeps complaining at rubbish mpg, but it's a diesel so can't be that bad?

It also has a chrome front grille. Not sure if that's standard but it looks absolutely shocking.

Nice motor otherwise. The sensible choice for people who don't want to pretend they're part of the Essex elite.

Just because there are loads of idiots who own them it doesn't make it right

Look how many poncey twats there are that own Defenders that never see mud.. Why in fucks name would you buy (at a massive premium) a car that is completely shite to drive in any other environment other than a muddy field?

Its like girls and Ugg boots, yeah they are comfortable but they don't exactly fit the definition of 'boot', a particularly humid day is enough to fuck up a pair of ugg boots let alone snow and rain!

It's nice to know that some internet weirdo doesn't "believer" me . If you go back and read and ask someone to explain my comment to you maybe you will understand that I said I won't be buying one .

You said you were about to order one, which i don't believe whether you like the brand or not. Sorry about my clear autocorrect error, will try harder.

Correcting other people doesn't work quite as well when you put a space before every full stop.

No I didn't say I was about to order one . I said I was going to order one until I had the pleasure of dealing with land rover customer support in relation to my 3 year old range rover sport . What don't you believe ? Do you think these cars are made and no one buys them ?
