Out of interest what does pulled 32k mean.
Does that number include deductions for running a van,fuel, insurance , tools etc

Inspection & Testing is alright but I've not known it be a full time job. I've got my 2391 but only a small percentage of my work is test and inspection. Plus the fact I can't deal with the NICEIC robbing wankers. I know there are alternatives to them now but majority of clients like to see the NICEIC badges.

Telephone engineer? £27k plus ot for a 36 hour week with multiple shift patterns available... 5 day week, 9 day fortnight, 4 day week...

I hate the way 'engineer' is banded around in this country. I spent 5 long years studying to get an engineering degree and yet this is equally applicable to someone who fixes telephones in the UK.

I did a 3 year apprenticeship in this field, i am a qualified telephone engineer - which is the correct term for the task.
Its no less skilled then being a spark or gas engineer. There are just different levels you can be trained to in openreach. I was trained on everything including WICS and manhole work.
I have now progressed through the company into management but yes youre right, i couldnt do whatever your job is without training... But likewise you couldnt fix a phoneline without it either.... So in reality you are no more skilled then i am

Well its not - most jobs require a degree of skill - welder, sparky, hairdresser, beauty therapy.... You need to be skilled in that area
I am not skilled in those areas so i cannot do them to the required standard

I don't under stand what is so difficult about electronics. Especially for the hourly rate people get billed. Seems extortionate for a couple of bits of wire and a screw driver.
Not saying what I do is hard, it's a piece of piss and anyone could do it.
Often think "tradesmen" make out they are as skilled as doctors etc.

With electrical work, it's 30% knowledge and 70% knowing the regulations.
The practical bit is the easy bit really.

Depends what industry you're talking about, ie - audio electronics is pretty maths and physics heavy (know this from a year doing it at uni), likewise with circuitry design (although again, it depends what area).

Van, tool, fuel costs etc get put in against tax. Was 32k ish before tax, so knock 20%CIS tax off 28k of that (4k was own jobs so had to pay tax at year end on those) , i got 3k tax rebate too. Not bothered to work out what I actually ended up with in my hand.
Tiger. I know of a few lads that just do eicrs. Self employed like so can choose what they do.

All started with mechanics getting labelled as "techs" now we have people who work in a coffee shops called "Senior Barista" and people who work in Subway called "Sandwich Artists"
What next? Dustbin Technicians?

I work in management now and it's shit, I enjoyed hands on a lot more.
Mechanics should be paid more, the wage is shit for the trade they are in.
I'm going to be looking into doing a NEBOSH course shortly, my father completed his around 6 years ago, He spent years working all over the world in the oil industry and wanted to slow down a bit and be at home more, he now works as senior HSE for a large fabrication/oil company up here.
