I see several laws being broken here my dear. Ring up a employment law specialist (do a search on the web there are loads with free advice). they'll tell you what you can & cant do.
btw they cant sack you because you are ill, a perm illness is a disability, sacking you would be disability discrimination. they can pay you off sort of thing if they dont think ur going to come back though.
a girl at my old place had about 8 months off with an illness, she got full pay throughtout those 8 months. When she came back she had earned the 8 months holiday entitlement and had to take them before the year was out. Ring a solicitor, you could get a nice payout.
doesnt matter whether your a part timer, contractor or whatever, if you can prove that you are employed by them and have been for over 2 years (i think it may be less now for some things) then your entitled to the same privelages as a full time person. ( i think there may be a minimum hours that you do a week though)

that dont mean jack. I used to work for a big internet bank (www.egg.com). they where doing a big reshuffle, I was told if I wasnt made redundant (since I wanted to be) I could still leave and take redundancy (work a few k to me). so fair enough I thought. then on the day they told me they'd made a mistake and I had to work 3 months notice if I wanted redunancy (since I could keep my job). Which considering Id accepted another job put me in a difficult situation. Because i hadnt actually lost my job I couldnt do anything. It was a big set up. a big company too.

actually ure right i think u also find the big companys are assholes and really dont know how to treat thier employees. ure just another payroll number. and if u try to fight them in court they can afford the big solicitors too. im already seein a solicitor on a different matter so i will ask her advice when i next see her

Everyone's entitled to statutory sick pay of some sort:
http://www.ivillage.co.uk/workcareer/workrights/workemps/articles/0,,212_160862,00.html
But cos u've been sick for a long time I'm not sure if this still counts.....
http://www.onlinewbc.gov/docs/manage/hrpol_sick.html
This may be of some interest to u also:
http://www.ivillage.co.uk/workcareer/workrights/workemps/qas/0,,212_169790,00.html
This websites also fairly useful:

Hope this helps!

Yeah, it could just be a fairly informal check to look at your situation and see how it's going?
You'll be fine!

I run a payroll department so can help
If you were earning more then £72 a week when u were working full time you were entitled to 28 weeks of sick pay (at £63.25 per week between 6th April 2002 and 5th April 2003). You are also still entitled to all the benefits of a working employee, this includes holiday entitlement (min 20 days per year inc bank holidays if you work 5 days per week). They can lay you off after 28 weeks of sick pay if they consider you no longer capable of doing the job.
