They're fine if you want an OE replacement lifetime filter.
They filter better than paper, can go longer between services (cleaning intervals) than paper (which you just replace) or cotton-gauze filters (which are a pain to clean).
They're easier to clean than cotton-gauze: you can just clean them under the tap (following the correct cleaning instructions).
Lifetime warranty against manufacturers defects - the last filter you'll need to buy!
As an OE filter, you're not going to get much in the way of power, but with a modified airbox you might be able to get a little more induction noise.
Enlarge the air intake on the side of the box and blank off any chambers on the side of the box.
