Plus always worried the next time it breaks it'll cost me even more.

New one was a straight swap and needs tidying up a bit. But it's a 2.0tdi so much cheaper to run.

I completely forgot about this project!

I like the dash! Is that an old front door mat you have used where the instruments will sit?

Cheers mate. Looks so much better than a std mk1 jobbie and doesn't look too modern or out of place in my opinion of course

Got the last few bit fitted to the roll cage...

got the floor mounted pedal box in place, cut the pedals down and added new brackets so it can be removed with cylinders in place.

welded up the std gearlever hole up and made a new mount for the cable shifter

had to "adjust" the handbrake slightly.... now 3" shorter

trial fitted lower dash piece..

Picked up a "new" gearbox this morning and the spent sometime this afternoon cleaning it up a bit...

Not sure what colour to paint it? red with black accents, just black, or silver

It's not in good enough condition to clean coat.

I'm leaning towards red more and more purely cos most are saying not to (have this thread on another forum too)

Everything that's bolted to the gearbox will be black.

Today i got to spend few hours up with the caddy

started by cutting out the lhd wiper holes, i made new plates and bent them for Darren to weld in...

Darren worked on the lower dash and i cut holes in the bulkhead for the gearbox cables...

then finally i got round to cutting, bending and making my ally fuel tank level sensor box. just need to get it welded up now...

Darren has been sending my updates as i've unfortunately had to work (boooo!)

Mission weld up unnecessary holes has been done....

This included cutting out some rot and fixing the snapped/rusted door brace

and incase you cant see also the hole in the roof from the roof beacon it had during its original life

next up was a chassis notch, not planning on going dick head low but cant hurt to do it now if i change my mind

Umfortunately whilst doing the notch Darren made a discovery....

but Darren being Darren this was soon put right...

got tomorrow off for my birthday so i'll pop up and see it in the flesh

Updates!!!

Not the most exciting but updates none the less...

First, got round to sandblasting a load of bits ready to powdercoat, before and afters....

Dont know if you can tell from the above pictures but ive modified the 2.0 8v Alternator bracket as only 3 holes line up anyway so made it look a bit more like its meant to be like that.

Found some sturdy workbenches at work that were about to be thrown out so i loaded them into the van and got them home sharpish before anyone else claimed them. then proceeded to rearrange my garage...

my original wobbly self made bench...

new set up....

before the benches made it into the garage i went and collected everything that wasnt bolted to the shell and brought home...

New alternator set up

"built" engine up to make sure everything fits..

then took it all apart again

Painted some bits high temp black

wasnt a fan of the matte so redone in gloss

and a few bits fresh silver

that was tonight so were up to date..... except one final picture i recieved just now.....

first lot of bits powdercoated
