Wrong, I followed the sky f1 deal quite obsessively and since the very day they announced the f1 dedicated channel it was free to HD and/or sports customers.
I never ever read of C5's involvement, but that's not to say it never happened. If they did match the offer, it would never have gone to sky... Bernie cares about only cash and to gain the same rates while maintaining free to air broadcasting would have won hands down.

There was rumours of Channel 5 and Channel 4 bidding but it appeared to be just that after Mark Thompson (BBC) said in one of the government meetings (have a look HERE) that he only approached Sky and they and Bernie agreed.
Either way it's done now and once BBC's contract ends it'll no doubt shift fully to Sky.
Still, i think Sky's coverage is pretty amateur compared to BBC's; far too many useless people like that Georgie lass and the host, Simon. Maybe after the Olympics Jake will make the jump and it might improve then.
Hopefully a good race today, certainly be decent to see Webber winning.

this race is ridiculously boring.
only on the calender because of the glitz and glam of monaco and the money it generates.
