Apparently, and this is only from someone who is supposedly 'in the know' - the club have realised the power of spending big on players to bring in the revenue. Mainly due to the popularity of Torres and the fact the amount of revenue he has personally brought in since he joined us.
So the yanks MAY dig deep to spend on Villa (depending how deep we are talking).

Nah, it wont be anywhere near that.
If, and its a massive IF, Villa has decided he only wants to come to us (or United for example) Valencia will have to sell for a more reasonable amount or run the risk keeping him when they need to get the cash.
Similar to when we signed Torres when much bigger offers were on the table for him from other clubs.

They dopnt need to sell him though, they can keep him and sell (e.g.) david silva and raul albiol, its gonna be well over £30m

Of course they need to sell him They need to sell all 3.
They've come out and said they dont, but thats only to make out the arent desperate - they are. If they got into the CL then they could of held off with selling one of them, but they didnt so they are fooked, and in more debt than most the English clubs (except United).

I think mascherano is one of our best players, I would hate to see him go....but I would have to agree, if he is instructing his agent to get this deal done I would hope we would get £25m+ with rafa hopefully having his eye on a good and hugely cheaper replacement.
