Its big but thin, screen is very clear but gets hot, its quick but drops connection, makes an iphone4s look old, can be dropped from elbow height and survive, battery lasts a day, camera is great, it smells like a gameboy did in 1990, i can troll on mine

Best Android phone out. It's big, but thin.

It's no better than the iPhone, but no worse either.

If you want to use it properly you also need to install third party keyboards and music players as well as install a custom OS as Samsung do not provide the best one.

Good news is that these things are actually easily available as opposed to iOS where your stuck with the standard crap that can't as easily be changed (but works fine out of the box).

Don't expect to look at the screen to see who's calling, if you receive a call while out in the sun.

Anybody else have a problem whereby when you record a video in landscape then play it back, it's as though it was filmed in portrait but then stretched to fit landscape making everyone really fat?

If you're coming from an iPhone, don't expect anything to work out the box.

Good

Screen (if not in the sun)
Notification Light
Handling of notifications in general is very good
Toggles in pull down menu (although no flight mode which is annoying)
Auto updating of apps
Battery - If you're prepared to download tasker and spend a week setting up profiles to cut data when the screen is off, periodically turn sync on, cut wifi when not at home, optimize screen brightness etc etc. Can get a full day now with quite heavy use, about the same as iPhone 5 with everything running.
Customization - pretty easy to get it looking how you want with a launcher, still requires root to do anything more than changing wallpaper, icons, layout though.

Bad
Play Store - Lots of non-optimized pixelated apps by crappy devs or non-native apps like facebook, ebay that run like dog turd.
Copy and paste function is a bit awkward
Keyboard - Have to install an aftermarket one
Doesn't handle the data connection well, only get Edge in areas I used to get 3G and even then its intermittent at best.
Any features that rely on running constantly, Eyes free, S-voice, Google Now - forget about them unless you want to carry your charger round with you.
Gallery - You'll want an aftermarket one
Music Player - As above
No unified inbox for mail
Gmail App - Have to scroll around you emails to read them rather than just being scalled to fit the screen.
No tap to top in scrolling menus/browser
Proprietary connector for charging etc
Ad's seem to be much more intrusive than I'm use to (root required to block them)

Cameras more than adequate in the day, but poor in low light so fits under both categories.

Had to take the battery out a handful of time during two months of ownership, nothing major but not something I've had to do before.

In general the pros and cons balance out, then when you consider the price compared to the iPhone it makes it a good buy. If moneys not an issue, get an iPhone.

I just look at phones as some device i have to get used to for 24 months, they all do the same thing really, just some people get too involved with all this debate about stuff that doesn't really matter to 90% of people

I'll agree on the FB being shite, but i've found it to be shite on all devices even the new native iOS app, and it would be nice if GMail app scaled email properly. But both can be 'fixed' without much arseache - ie: use FB mobile site or Friendcaster and the standard email app.

http://blog.clove.co.uk/2012/06/08/samsung-galaxy-s3-uses-a-different-mhlhdmi-adapter/

The Galaxy S3 has an 11-pin connector for its MHL support, where all previous MHL compatible devices used a 5-pin connector. As a result, previous MHL accessories and devices are not directly compatible with the SGS3. Samsung has provided a new MHL to HDMI adapter, and a cheaper 'adapter tip' for adapting existing MHL accessories for use with the SGS3.

I guess they just moved some pins about.

That's the (micro-USB to) MHL adaptor, what's on the S3 is a typical micro-USB port the same as most devices and phones sold in the EU due the EU commission standardising chargers. Hence the EU micro-usb adaptor for Apple lightening port.
