If they have actually compromised it that easily, as you well know, there are far bigger implications than changing a facebook status. It makes it as useless as every other implementation of fingerprint scanners we've had on mobile devices before.

I'm not fully convinced as the latex/tape print doesn't differ from the person using it; you really want them to differ and the person using the fake print to have zero access to the phone.
Hopefully someone will do a proper investigation into how good the sensor is but if the video is real, then it's a bit of a shame that the sensor is that easy to dupe.
Rob - You probably could lift a print and use a conventional scanner and laser printer.

From what I gathered from their keynote it is intended to help people go from no security to some level of security, which I'll still claim holds true.
