The Brexit vote hasn't created racism.

Might have given it an outlet, but it was there anyway.

Don't overlook the fact that the racist right hasn't had any voice at all in any meaningful way for many years. The left has created a situation - and don't take this to be conspiracy theory - I've seen anti-indigenous discrimination all over the place in my 12 years in education. You can't make the white man feel second class and expect for it all to be fine down the line.

All this referendum has done is brought to the surface all the ill-feeling that's been bubbling for years, shame its going to fuck the UK economy in the process but perhaps if we hadn't been so left-leaning and if all these issues weren't complete taboo you'd have solved it beforehand.

Right now I've no surprise you're seeing 'racist incidents'. That's what happens when you remove the ability to discuss anything then suddenly give people the leverage under which to turn it nasty. I did underestimate the weight of public opinion but you obviously have many, many people who feel a protest vote is the watershed they needed.

They were going ahead with it back in February and apart from the FT and a handful of car sites/blogs with articles linking their £200m spending and the Brexit, i've yet to see anything similar pop on any of the three major UK TV news outlets (Sky, ITV and BBC) nor within a number of newspapers (Telegraph, Guardian, Evening Standard, Times etc).

Sounds like it's all a bit of a non-story Steve rather than BBC attempting to bias their reporting towards 'leavers' or 'remainers'

Edit - Should add Channel 4 to the UK major TV news outlets but i don't watch it so meh......

Did the BBC actually report it after the tweet from the BBC presenter? I can't remember, although The Independent reported something similar and i wouldn't be surprised if others did too (if i was Davey i'd waste time Googling).

Granted, it should have been fact checked but it's always a rush to get news out (be the first etc) and there's plenty more cases of outlets falsely reporting.

I'm still not convinced there's a conspiracy here with the BBC's reporting. True, they're not completely unbiased but they're certainly far less biased than other outlets (Sky, RT etc etc)

Of course it's a non story. the media don't want to make it a story because God forbid it would be something positive post brexit

But why single out the BBC when very few outlets have reported on a statement that re-confirms another statement made five months previous?

That fact that majority of outlets didn't report it would suggest that it's more down to newsworthy-ness rather than bias reporting.

Only thought is on his statement that "it'll be choppy waters for a few weeks...". There's going to be uncertainty over the next 27/28 months while the exit negotiations happen, so i can't see the markets fully stabilising within 'a few weeks'.
Tbh i don't believe the next two years is the real problem, it's what happens when we do eventually leave that could be the issue.

Otherwise the entire report is Digby saying "Get on with it" which i have no issue with.
We've been (personal opinion) dealt an absolute blow which could completely screw this country but there isn't a lot we/us/'remainers' can do other than buck up and 'get on with it'.
If it does go to pot then i'll try and migrate elsewhere whilst telling you 'leavers' "i told you so"

Unless they're stocking up on long-life items for when we leave, then not a lot will happen whilst we remain in the EU

100s of other countries are doing just fine outside the eu. I don't think we will be worse off at all.

As mentioned we now have access to many other markets now to make up any shortfall on losses we may have through tariffs if any on trading with other eu countries
