Hi mate if you want some proper advice on a Saxo this is not the best place for it!
LOL
Some people are obviously jealous, others just plain wrong

Saxos are avalible as a MK1 or Mk2.
The VTR is a 1.6 8v (mk1 90BHP, MK2 98BHP)
0-60 in 9.3 seconds and a top end of 116 I think.
Group 7 insurance.

VTS is 120BHP (although some around the 2000year mark were 130BHP)
0-60 in 7.7 seconds
126mph top end.
Group 14 insurance.

Both cars handle really well as standard using springs up front and Torsion bar rear.
VTR has 1 airbag and optional ABS, VTS has two airbags and ABS as standard.

They weigh in at around 930kg so for 1.6s do go very well.

The VTR is fairly torquey lower down but runs out of puff at 5200rpm, the 16v VTS revs to 7250rpm and has peak torque at 5200rpm with low gearing.
So the VTS takes a bit of winding up but once it hits 5000rpm goes like stink!

Hence the group 14 insurance.

And before anyone says anything about the 106 GTI, it is the same car as a VTS and shares most of the same parts

If you are a new or young driver DO NOT get the VTS or you'll prolly wrap it round a lamppost at highspeed!
The Saxos, like the 205s are designed to have lift off oversteer on tap.
So if you go into a roundabout a bit quick keep the power on cos if you lift off the throttle that back end WILL lift up and overtake the front, if you don't know what you're doing then you are going to hit something hard!

Anything else you want to know?

Saxos are so cheap. My mat bought 1 for double what I paid for my corsa. The whole interior was just black plastic, the seats were the most uncomfortable things I have ever sat in, the engine mate some shitty noise all the time and it was fucking slow. Luckily he smashed into a tree and destroyed it, we both laughed after the crash, dunno why!?!!

I was pretty sure it was 7200rpm, I used to easilt get mine over 7200rpm before I hit the limiter.

And I agree, A corsa site isn't the best place for Saxo advice, but nor is SSC because of being biased

Come on guys be fair
Ok VTRs are very common becuase they have cheap/free insurance so suit young drivers, but the VTS is a different car altogether (well not quite but it performs very differently)

How many other small cheap hatches have the same performance or handling as a VTS?
Not many

And yes, they rattle, squeak and sometimes fall apart, but they only weigh 930kgs which is why they handle and go well.

I've only ever driven 1 Corsa and that was a 1.4 GLSi.
It was slow and wallowed all over the shop, but the brakes were great and there's no doubting the build quality.
It was well made.

Most people get over 7200 before the limiter, maybe your engine is a bit tight?

Have you noticed the way when you sit in a saxo the tiny pedels are offset. Your legs have to sit at a slight diagonal. That would do my head in.

Yep, the driver footwell does take some getting used too.
I used to hit brake and go pedal at the same time sometimes.
I also had to make sure I took my workboots off before driving the car because they were too wide and covered all the pedals also chunky enough to rip the padding out the top of the footwell sometimes

Ah the joys of French cars and people who eat garlic and have small feet

Strange how the 205 has loads of foot room in the front
