It really depends on the previous ownerships, because they're seen as performance engines people drive them like a speed machine, so they obviously wear quicker than granny engines.

A lot of people who modify the XE's and LET's probably don't realise, you can't just uprate the performance in every single area of the engine, where you highly increase the power surge in one area of the engine (i.e bigger turbocharger) you have to decrease the performance in another area to stop the engine committing suicide (i.e change cam timing to a degraded performance)

You see regular posts asking for advice on engine tuning and the so called 'experts' reply with ' yeah piece o' piss that la la la....' what they don't tell you is the intricate details of the whole process.....
My advice would be, stay away from forum advice, and ring someone like Wallace, CossVaux, or get in contact with Vauxhall specialists.
There's a little place near me who specially order these engines and stick em in caterhams etc..... they supplied everything for my engine at half the price you get all this ARP shit for.

cheers guys..

this one seems well looked after..quite low miles and fitted by courtenay so not just any old garage....

Think I will have to play it by ear...bro in law runs a garage so he's always good for advice....

if I buy it I won't rag it everywhere either...I'll look after it like I look after my kid.........

lol i laugh at post by venomturbo, i had this exact argument with greasemonkey/broster etc few months ago about tuning, and i said u cant just bolt on modifications without uprating the weakest parts of the engine which in turn some point down the line will result in less reliability somewhere, and they told me to fcuk off and im talking rubbish.......

it could take thousands of miles b4 it happens but i think it would, they argued back that the x14xe/x16xe engines were good for 150 bhp and yes they are right becuase they was detuned by vauxhall with the inlet etc etc
but what if vauxhall did not detune bet they would of made dam sure the weaker parts on the detuned version would have bin swopped for the uprated version if they released it with the full power they produced. if ya get me

think its essential parts that wear on xe's like water pump/oil pump maybe, long as main things are changed like cambelt/fuel filter/water/pump/leads/plugs/gaskest maybe
