XE over a 1.6?
Doesn't that defeat the whole point of JR?

if the oil pressure light is on and its tapping, id say low oil pressure to the head......
or the oil pressure switch has fallen out, as mine did, shorted on the exhaust and melted, makes it stay on forever, and the tapping is the injectors, they have always done it, just now your so paranoid about noise due to a random light being on?

Because they are essentially a switch operating a high pressure valve in rapid succession Myke.
A bit like having a solenoid turn a tap on and off realy quickly, hence the mechanical sound.
This is only the case with elctronic injectors.
Constant pressure systems utilise injectors that shut when the pressure drops off, the required drop in pressure is dealt with by the fuel distributor head.

James... tut tut.
My XE sounds completely foobar'd over 2k, and I'm taking it to PVS. My plan is to hopefully get to PVS without it blowing to pieces, and if it goes on the way home then ye old AA will take care of that for me.
If the car fucks on the way up however, I'd be tempted to get towed home and take mums passat
