Sales would be the only area of interest to me although I dont think I could hack it, the chap that used to live downstairs from me works for Audi, hes on good money, just moved to a £200k penthouse apartment, always has a nice motor home - Theres been RS4's, S8's, loads of TT's etc outside when he lived here. The only shitter I could see without going into detail about asking about his job was the shite hours, weekends.....even had to go in on days off/holidays if there was a car going out.
I wouldnt touch any motortrade job with a shitty stick!!!!

Hasn't been mentioned yet but you could keep your job for a while and maybe do some part-time course in automotive engineering or sales/management or anything else that you like and then move off in a couple of years to a new job. you're still 24 anyway... and when you get some qualification you would definitly find a better job in the motor industry!

every post ive read about people ho have been in the motor trade and left it cos its shit, all seem to be in the car industry.
id highly recommend if you do want to go into the motor trade, go into HGV. ive worked on them since i was 16, and i gotta say, its brilliant. alot more interesting than working on a car.
i work for a volvo main dealership in norfolk, where the pay is by far the best, but i know our parts guys are on around 17k (both only been there 2 years).
if motor trade is your next plan, try the hgv market. its definatly worth a look

im in the motor trade sort of, i work for a supplier to vauxhalls in ellesmere port, we make the seats, im 23 on just over 19k a year without overtime, been here for over 4 years,
the industry is on its arse because of cheap workers abroad, we find out this year if we will have jobs next year, there's 5 plants trying to get 3 contracts,

I fail to see how it could be as bad as working in a office talking about life assurance all day long? Seriously apart from pay drop and having to work Saturday mornings I don't see any negatives about it.

You have to deal with mechanics.

I wouldn't mine that Adam, at least I know what I'm talking about when it comes to cars, come and sit in my seat all day long having to work out loadings on life assurance policys and what trust is needed or why one premium is different to the other.

my mates works at an evo specialist round here after doing a motorsport engineering course and he loves the job, getting to work on and test alot of evos for a living is pretty cool, not so long ago some bloke bought his ac cobra in to have nos fitted and took him for a passenger ride when it was done! he also does abit of rallying aswell
on the other hand its still a garage and he gets days where he will change a cambelt on a micra etc. and as you have probably guessed by now the pay wasnt great, but enough

yes, us mechanics whigne like mad at the parts guys, its probably bcause they r nearly all useless at my place and never understand what we are talking about.
Its probably not there fault, they need more training, but when u ask for a night heater motor, which is about the size of half a brick, and they order in a climate unit heater, which is the size of a microwave, it begins to get a bit frustrating, espeically as you then have to wait 24hrs for another one.

Yes parts depts and mechanics are always having arguements about whos fault it is that the wrong part has been ordered, its normally the incompetant mechanics pointing out the wrong part on the epc

Oliver parts dept isnt bad if you work for a decent dealer (not a massive one like ford or vaux IMO) as the higher up you go, the better trained the techs and parts advisors will be, the less busy and the work will be of a higher quality IMO
best bet would be to go into a VAG dealer i think
