My money is on the inlet not sealed right.

not tried yet mate, been busy all day and then tried it but battery was flat so stuck it on charge , will probs try it tomorrow now

UPDATE - inlet is not the problem, still wouldnt start.
Think it is the timing so will be doing that this evening

dont suppose youve had a chance to check the timing? it might help if you can unplug the dis pack so it wont fire and turn it over then. Take a video of it and post it here, you can sometimes tell bent valves and timing issues by the way it sounds while turning over

Sounds fine without the dizzy pack.... still doesnt rule out timing though. Sounds to me like timing or sensor out of alignment

To be honest that sounds like its turning over normally, what does it sound like to you being there? will be interesting when the timing has been checked

just been out looking at the engine, and my exhaust cam pulley is missing two sensor lugs - could this be the prob?

can you see where they snapped off? I suppose it could cause the problem yes

yeh it is the two smaller sensors on the cam pulley itself.
i'll get a new cam pulley then get it timed 
hopefully should sort the problem

Does the engine run if you unplug the cam pulley sensor? some are critical sensors and some it will run without, not sure about that one. does the timing look ok though?
