He admitted he has a problem with alcohol causing anger and needs to sort it, and is seemingly doing that.
People fight every night when out and no one bats an eyelid, so it's a case of profile too imo. Yeah 15 punches is bad, but there's stuff that comes into it like being spat at, taunted about your brother and so forth.
The playing again debate is pointlessa t the end of the day, even if Newcastle did look to get rid, there'd be clubs waiting to snap him up.

Saying that though, it should be delt with differently as young people see this on the tv. Looking up to footballers and all that.

Young people get arrested and locked up all the time for that sort of shite, plus its not the first time he has been in trouble which would also of been taken into account.
And saying he had to put up with being shouted and spat at, etc. etc. is no excuse, he is paid a lot of money doing something most people would love to do. And part of his job is to put up with (or not put himself in the situation where) this sort of crap happens.
He got what he deserves, and hope its extended when he is up for the Dabo case.

Yep, so he's been jailed whereas his brother and the other bint got suspended sentences, so they've done that already.
Who's going to stop him playing football? FIFA ban him for being in jail? It's just not going to happen.
Adams, Best, Pennant amongst other did porridge and they played on. Hughes killed a bloke by dangerous driving and clubs still wanted him. The 'should he play again' debate is nonsense if clubs still want him imo.

Hughes killed soneone and was still allowed to play.
The whole Barton shouldn't play anymore debate is flawed and pointless.

Agreed about the playing on bit - no problem with that IMO.

I know you didn't. It was said above that it's being debated so I stuck it in my post.

That's what I was trying to say
He's done something wrong, is getting punished for it and the debates about him are pointless.

Drink driving is slightly different to assault and kicking the shit out of a team mate

Someone, not sure if it was Pennant, was in the jail near me. I applied for a job there once

Still bad tho, although I see your point
I think its more the fact he could disrupt the team/bet the team up that the top teams wudnt be interested.

Drink driving, and crashed. And he was already serving a long term ban.
It's swings and roundabouts.

Its still no where near as bad as smashing someone in the face 15+ times, and smashing up a team mates face.

I'm not trying to defend the lad in any way and in fact I'd rather he never signed for Newcastle however having a couple of scraps does not usually lad you in Jail. Also can any of you honestly say if someone spat on you you wouldn't retaliate?

Agreed with Moe
I'm not sure sure drink driving when banned isn't as bad. He could easily have killed someone like Hughes. Accident or not.
They're both bad in their own right.

1. It wasnt just a scrap, he kicked the guys head in. A few punches thrown - not so bad. Continually punching the guy - bad.
2. If part of my job which earns me £30k+ (more?) a week meant that a large section of the country hated me and would try to wind me up then no, I wouldnt retaliate.

He didnt though - so saying he could of is a stupid comment. If he had of done so, like Hughes, then ofcourse it was as bad.
Its like me saying that Barton could of killed that guy - but he didnt, so is just a stupid comment.

Right, it's a stupid comment.
We could argue this 'til we're blue in the face. He's serving the time for the crime he commited, fair enough. And he'll go on playing when he's out, just as numerous players have done so before him, it's no different.
