if you haven't got a router i assume you're on the internet using a USB modem? if this is the case you can plug an "ethernet" cable into your computer and the other end into the PS3 and share the computer's internet connection.

Modem isn't built into the pc I can see a blue cable with ethernet on it going into the pc and modem

i'm not saying it is built in, if its ethernet you're using into the PC then you should just be able to plug the same cable into the PS3

no, that would depend on how many ports there are on the modem, or router.

you could always buy a switch, which takes one connection and allows you to plug more in
