been through loads of these and never recieved anything  but that's at probably 80mph max, so i guess theres a big margin before you do get caught.

I can quite happily cruise at 30mph or whatever speed for that matter, without the need to glue my eyes to the speedo.

I think youve got it right there, there are people on the road who can barely concentrate as it is and now you tell them they have to stick to an exact speed they will struggle even more. Its not like you can do 40mph through the roadworks at nottingham or you get abused and bullied by everyone else.
Im sure doing 75mph at 3am on a straight empty motorway is really dangerous

They already have these as you drive into Nottingham from the M1 IIRC
They're on the M1 between Nottingham and Sheffield, the A52 on the way to Nottingham and they popup quite frequently in Nottingham itself. 
They do their job. If you stick to the legal speed limits, you've got nothing to worry about.

You have to average over the usual threshold over a distance. It's not simply a case of going past one of them over the speed limit, it's between 2 or 3 of them.

brett i can cruise at that speed, but the slightest oversight, speeding up to go around an obstable for e.g and its all over. Its not i cant drive but with cruise control i am paying 100% attention to everything around me and dont have to worry about my speedo as the car does that

Been along A52 (Nott'm ring road) for years and up the A610 (J26 M1) too.
Only good thing is if your have cruise control, set it to the right speed and relax

Lots are yes, but the A9 between Munich and Nuremburg is still free.
FUnny how I've only seen two accidents and they werent on the Autobahns since I moved here, and yet no speed cameras!

This will create MORE crashes. Think about it. You'll spend all you time looking at your speedo and not the traffic that has stopped in front of you.
Unless you have a Merc CL500 to drive with CC and speed limit
