At least you know they aren't driving it around at their pleasure.

But cambelt going ftl - I thought you'd have been recovered all the way home, unless you don't have Relay breakdown cover - who got you the hire car?

True

Well they have a new policy which means their drivers are only allowed to drive 100km. So it has to keep getting swapped to a new recovery truck every 100km = long trip home.

So they got us a hire car under the RAC policy so we could get home. That's all they are there to do so getting me a hire car for the mean time isn't their problem.

Going to ring up now, it was meant to be here midday today.

Chains don't need changed at all

And no way is it 50k.

Vauxhall are famous for chains snapping, they always have an interval, to be honest I dont know why they went back to chains with the track record they have got

The old 8v duplex chains never broke but the modern twin cam stuff snaps all the time.

It feels like it!

They were planning to deliver it at 11pm tonight apparently, well that could be interesting as I'll be in West London then

Told them they'll have to wait till tomorrow now and they said I'd be charged for storage, told them I'm not paying a single charge for their cock up and they rung back and said they'd store it for free and deliver it midday tomorrow. I feel a big letter of complaint coming on...

I put them on the other day Deano whilst it was sitting there waiting for new engine to go in

Lower mileage is a big bonus for me now.

Yeah Gav, and Facelift colour coded mirrors. And is it just! Riding the bike was a MISSION, weather dropped big time as I got my car back, good timing...

Looks like a seized idler. Belt stops moving, crank carries on going. Belt gets shredded

I wondered this too, as the bottom end is in working condition in terms of piston, but if a tensioner or something has gone then I don't want to sell a dodgy block.

See that quite alot on Vw's waterpumps tend to sieze shredding the belt..

had a few people complain 'you replaced my cambelt and 10k later its snapped..' we take it apart and say 'well we did advise you replaced the waterpump at the same time, you were too tight, now its killed your engine.. you need a new cylinder head or a head rebuild..' to that the customer replies 'oh'..

If you're worried that much about it, just don't red line it in every gear. Give it less chance of breaking - although I do know cambelts don't just go when you're ragging them.

If the engine sounds ok, don't worry about it. You can tell when chains are loose. Cambelts, as far as I can gather, need replacing because they perish. A metal chain doesn't, so much.
