My mortgage has gone down, my car was cheaper, fuel has come down and I shop for food online and buy on price like I always have done so I eat what is cheap.
It hasn't affected my job, in fact if anything there will be more opportunity for training providers. There is even a job which I might go for to help people retrain, which is more money and just as secure as regular teaching.
There's a few landlords who bought neighbouring flats to mine as an investment who are regretting it. Oh well.

ask some of the thousands who are now unemployed?
maybe infact certainly certain employers are using talk of the credit crunch to their advantage but still people are losing jobs for whatever reason and thats a big issue

Its affected the hotel industry. We have had to make redundancies and this is a Marriott i'm talking about not a small privatley owned hotel!
Luckily my job is about as safe as it gets in the hotel, but we got no xmas party and no bonus/pay increase, which is a shitter as I nailed last year and smashed all my targets etc! I've probably missed out on a £1k bonus

The 'credit crunch' was only ever a threat to my business and my work has picked up, all the big supermarkets want their buildings fireprotected in this 'climate' as the materials are cheap, labour is cheap and I'm not seeing any less profits at the moment because I have found ways around it, you have to tighten things up a little.
Sainsbury's and Morissons are spending big especially on structural work and a few of their moneymen are saying they are bringing plans forward a couple of years to save money in the long run.
In housing/mortgage terms I'm ok with because I don't have a mortgage but I do keep an eye on the gas/water/electric because I have 5 people living at my house at the moment although I'm away for a while and my sister is lodging at mine.
Although the unemployed rate has risen, there are lots of jobs out there, but people don't want to 'demote' themselves to doing something other than they're used to.
Many of the redundant people have too much pride to go and do a 'worse' job.
Personally if I had to be a cleaner for £250 a week just to keep a roof over my head I would and I wouldn't care who knew about it.

My old man has money burning a hole in his pocket to buy a Nissan Qashqai but can't find one that's still for sale. They come up for sale and are sold within hours.
Oh and I landed a new job (expansion) with a company who sell civil engineering products. Credit crunch FTW

I've not noticed any difference in my life because of the credit crunch. I have very little savings (other than my investment portfolio) and no debts, so interest rates don't effect me. Its more the unpredictability of the market. I've lost a lot of money in shares, but i'm still up alot from what i started with, so fuck it.

public sector building work will still be incredibly busy, and getting busier, as it is government spent money..
private sector work will be declining as it is difficult to make more profit.

This is rubbish, the govt have stopped spending, I know of somebody who's company had guaranteed work up until the commonwealth games here and now suddenly they might not have any after april.

I agree with John.
During the last recession, my dad had continual (although shit paid) work doing things like fire stations, schools and stuff.
But the government aren't spending or granting anything - haven't people heard billions are being invested in the banks? Money is going in one hand, out the other, and not being used for anything else.

pfi means people tender for work, if they havent picked your company, they have picked someone elses.
roads still need maintaining, hospitals need works, general infrastructure is needed.
or am i confused by the community infrastructure levy '08
