I could understand him earning that sort of money being self employed but a plumber working for a company would be pushing £30K-£35K absolute max

trust me lads the money is not that good when your low down in the ranks with not alot of experience, the lads on the ground need and deserve alot more money than they are actually getting, ive been out there 6 times in the last 4 years and only got about £10 extra a day, which is nothing really for the shit ive been through!

Are the pay scales and the fact you have to go to war not well known before you join?

This has always been the case for the army though, you have the aristocratic cunts in charge up top earning hundreds of thousands prancing around Whitehall and attending tea parties with the Queen, while the real grafters are getting blow to pieces riding around in inadequate APC's with inadequate equipment.

You join the Army expecting to be supported by the Government and paid a decent wage.

You could earn more at McDonalds (no offence to those that work there) FFS which to me is an absolute disgrace.

Some lads just want to join the army to have the comradeship, the chance to restart their lives and bring some meaning to everything.

Policeman and such like get paid more than the basic infantry soldier, and that is wrong. Policeman are lazy, moaning useless twats who aren't being attacked on a daily basis by an enemy brandishing AK47 and RPGs that you couldn't distinguish from a citizen of Bradford.

I'm ranting.

That isn't the point at all. In relation to what a Police officer earns and to some extent Fireman, an Infantry soliders pay is disgusting.

For some people the army is the only route to a decent career, not paying them a decent wage is another way of preventing the average citizen from moving up from the council estates of Britain.

I sound like a fucking Liberal now

I want to be a fighter pilot, apart from getting to fly fancy planes you get a 60k licence for free, while getting paid.

I know I'd have to sign my life away for 7 years though and get shot by guys with rpgs though so I don't apply.

But you have that option avaliable to you.

I suspect you have been educated to some degree, I suspect that the average Infantry solider would have prefered to be attending Top Gun, but due to their upbringing and lack of education they are limited to being Infantry soldiers. Does that make them less worthy of a decent wage?

To me that makes them MORE worthy of a decent wage.

You can't start rewarding lack of education, then the whole place falls apart even more than it is already.

It's an unskilled job for unskilled people that by your own admission won't get a job anywhere else, I don't see how that means they should be paid anymore.

The smart option is not to go somewhere you'll get shot at imo.

Without doing any research at all I know that you get about 16k, get shot at and people are always moaning about the sub-standard equipment, surely everybody with a TV knows that.

They even talk about it in The Sun so there's no excuse for not knowing.
