he has another rebel freestyler, an earlier one with twin top tubes but cant find any pics of it built, but this is the frame and forks

Thats some serious old school stuff going on there....does he keep them in a museum or something?
I used to have a quadangle(s), gave up on those fokkas as they snapped the headtubes almost weekly - great design in theory, shite in practice. I had a TA too, nice bike that...well strong, I only ever heard of one breaking when a nutjob jumped off something about 12' high onto the flat tarmac....it broke as did his ankle IIRC and it looked like you were riding a bike made of straws when you looked down on the top tube
Funnily enough, both of the above were designed as race BMX's but both (in your pics) are set up for freestyle
I wonder if your Bro' can tell me what I'm on in my pics above?...and yes they were original white Tuff 2's back in the day (broke them all too)

a lot of people used skyways for freestyle back in the day, and the quad is just an old school style, no particular style to be honest, just so it looks good.

Thats not strictly true...believe me I was back there in the day.
I'm not sure of the validity of that pic, but it aint a TA....the totally aerodynamic was a race bike..no questions of that.

yeah it was originally a racde bike, but it was used for freestyle, there was a skyway trick team.

skyway promo vid, plenty of freestyling t/a's, i know they arent all t/a's some streetbeats there aswell, but you can see t/a's were clearly used for freestyling.
check out www.radbmx.co.uk

I always wanted a Diamond back, a Skyway and a Mongoose. Too poor.
Still got my Condor with teardrop chromoly frame and red Tuff IIs in the loft though.

Pretty easily really, the original Tuff had alloy hubs with bolts though to secure each side (see the pics above) later wheels had a plastic hub as per Eddies TA shown in the pic directly above.
Skyway wheels were nigh on indestructable in terms of vert work in the early 80's, which was why we used them...prior to that we used to use race wheels, I used UKAIS pretty much solid to good effect for years. When flatland freestyle evolved the original skyway wheels showed a flaw in terms of lateral flex - the wheel itself cracked diagonally in the plastic in line with the bolts holding the hub together, hence skyway revising the hub design to the plastic on the pic Eddie posted.
Eddie, nice link there matey, brought back a few memories that
As you know, I didn't say the TA wasn't ever used for freestyle...it simply wasn't designed to be a freestyle bike. The TA just happened to be (probably) the best balanced race bike out there for freestyle use. From what I can remember (long time ago lol) the only really specialised freestyle bike at the time was the Haro..and that weighed a fooking ton
So we all used our race bikes for freestyle with good/bad results, there were 'loads' of 'add on's' around at the time to convert a 'race' bike to a 'freestyle' bike similar to the skyway foot stand you posted above. At this time foot pegs came to the fore too...we didn't need them before and tricks were invented around them.
FWIW (I know I'm rambling a tad now) I think all SE racing/Hutch/ and I think skyway stuff was solely imported into the UK by Shiners in Bristol back in the day..which is why we got them shipped in. I was certainly under consideration for the skyway sponsorship via bikelogy (now called rollermania)
Me? I chose a VDC Changa as seen in my pics and imported by shiners...had a pro version and then the standard which is the one I'm riding in the photos...the best BMX I've ever ridden.

Mine was robbed out of our garage with a shed load of snap on tools.
The entire tool box went via the front lawn, with a single bike tyre line over the turf.
The old mans 911 (on jacks) was left totally untouched.
Don't you just love selective robbing barstards?
