Why does it have to cost so much? Surely price shouldn't come in to it

I could have got her some cheap 5 1/2 inch heeled shoes, but they wouldn't come with red soles, in a bespoke velvet bag inside a giant giftwrapped box.

It's as much about the occasion as the thing itself, and going the extra mile so when someone you care about remembers it in future, they do without the little voice saying "wish they'd done this instead".

(Of course the little voice would eventually become big voice and you'll never hear the end of it )

Of course it does.

Girls want a big massive diamond.

Big massive diamonds dont come on cheap rings.

Therefore price comes into it.

TBH I bet you couldnt of made her some shoes identical to her Louboutins for cheap.

I know what you're saying, and I do agree. But with an engagement ring I bet the fact you took time to design something she'd like would have just as much (if not more) kudos than buying something from Tiffany.

I did mention designing and rapid prototyping some copy CLs, but at about £50k for the RP process it was easier and cheaper to get the real deal.

Although apparently fakes that cost much more are also acceptable

I'm not a ring designer, all my stuff comes with LEDs jammed in the front and anally-retentive shutlines.

When I say design, I do mean go to a jewellers and spend the time designing it with them.

Not gather round a PC screen with your german car designer buddies and make some ring with shiny wing mirrors.

Marriages fail when people stop pretending to be the person they showed themselves to be before the big day.
