Of course I read it Joe, dont be so silly! Yeah it is a public place that anyone can go to (and I reccomend EVERYONE tries it once) but the problem is and I'm sure you would completely understand is that you travel a great length to go there for the TF days, now as the ring gets buiser this also increases the likelyhood of crashes, crashes mean closures, closures means not lapping which means sitting around not driving which is quite frustrating. We all understand thats the nature of the place but when its closure after closure because some stupid french cunt was leaking oil out of his car and caused a pile up its rather annoying.
Its not about keeping it secret or private, I guess we just want to have our cake and eat it.

Willay, how long does it take you to get there in the cars?
You sitting at an average say 80mph odd, or sitting at higher speeds all the way?
I REALLY like the idea of Nurb trip on my bike, but im too much of a pussy to take it on the 13 mile course (would prefer to do it in a car), but wanna do the F1/WSB circuit on a trackday instead. Just pondering thoughts.

aww you guys
i make it very clear that i am way more interested in V8s and drag racing than track stuff. anyone who has been to SantaPod will know im a sucker for all that stuff. Yes some people think its the dullest motorsport in history but i enjoy it. it too can be a "bench mark" or sorts
i was just voicing my opinion on how i think all this 'Burg stuff is getting a bit silly now and people had to turn it around and be all defensive about their holy land
Also Paul.. STFU and stop being a nobber.. everyone knows you drive exactly the same on or off the track.. Stop making this thread a personal attack i was just getting my opinion across

1/4 mile times are a rough indicator.
True draggers know that its the terminal what shows what a car can do without the addition of a good/bad driver.

With a couple of stops about 4 hours.
The GP track is open while we are over there, on the offical site it now states which days the GP track is open to the public so have a look.
As a biker it would take some serious balls for me to go out on a bike on the Northloop, it's just far to mental to even consider.

Yeah I'm sorry but if anyone went there and wasn't in awe of the entire experience I would question their sanity.

But that's why I got so agressive in my response... Just because you're not bothered about track stuff or the nurburgring, why did you feel you had to post your dislike for it / unable to understand why other people enjoy it?
As I say, I find drag racing pretty dull and unchallenging... but I don't make new posts on CS saying 'I really can't see why anyone would want to do this? Guys 'THERES MORE TO LIFE THAN 1/4 MILE TIMES'
Everyone is entitled to enjoy their own thing and if it pleases someone else to do it, leave them be.
The reason I got so agressive towards you Steve was because I felt you were being extremely hypocritical, after all, most people would 'not understand' our obsession with cars / the reason we've spent so much on them over the years. Everybody has their own interests / hobbies. I like driving on track and Nurburgring is the mecca of that (although the experience is about so much more than just driving it) - I just can't understand why people like yourself who don't enjoy it / have never been have to get so upset about the fact other people are doing sometihng you wouldn't enjoy.
Neverbeen stickers I really still don't get the point of.
I've never felt anyone comes across 'elitest' for driving the nurburgring, but I sense that everyone who has driven it has a respect for one another as they've been through the same terrifying / exciting 'experience'.

PS, the ring is not the mecca of tracks, its just one thats very very long... And thats going to be obtained by a custom made test track in Sweeden to open soon anyway. 7 odd miles long, just not as challanging. I'll have to find the details.
The are far superiour race tracks in the world, better surfaces, better run off, some actual safty proceedures in place. Its just the ring is old and well known.
I'd lake to see the old Spa circuit re-opened. Its nearly as long, 11 miles I think.

But can you turn up on an evening and race around them?
It's the bench mark for performance cars for a reason.

The nurburg is far from just being a 'long track' I'd prefer if it was shorter to be honest, there's a lot of boring straights in between sections of corners.
The nurburgring is all about the elevation changes, the wild cambers and blind corners... You won't be able to experience this until you do a lap - fact.
No video or computer game will be able to duplicate that feeling.

I'd say I'm quite into cars and I understand what the nurburgring is all about, the general buzz around it is completely gay though, it's like some secret society if you've been.
I'd have no problem going if I wasn't 400 miles further north than you lot.

i would also just like to point out that my initial post was actually a quote from Clarkson that he said last month and i totally agree..
I wasnt saying people who do trackdays are sad or whatever.. i was just saying that the nurburgring isnt the most important thing in life, as a lot of people seem to just be banging on about it a lot lately
I have been to Time Attack and loved it.. but there arent posts every day about it
thats all

Arrange a trip, when you come back you will want to go again. You can get a ferry from Newcastle to Rotterdam I think anyway, so your excuse is flawed
