The rest of it was liquid boot polish as it had stained the trim that I had no option other than to go over it again with that.

That's exactly it mate I knew it was going to look nicer but didn't expect it to come out as well as this.
Rich really knows his stuff, first tried some Lime Prime on the bonnet but it didn't make a lot of difference so went with the 3M stuff (2 blobs of the white one and 1 of the blue one ) and it was bang on the money
