From what i have read in the media cars are stolen to ship abroad and used as "currrency" as money laundering laws are stricter now.

but i would imagine that was stolen to order. Some Arab or Russian will probably have it now

Finding the keys alone is easier than finding the safe, breaking into it and then discovering you've found the keys though

Overnight and stuff it's a chore, but if you're away for 1-2 weeks its a must. Even my keys go in the safe and I drive an 8 year old Astra.

Thing that annoys me about this is the guy has worked hard to make it a rare example, yet when it comes to an insurance payout, will get nowhere near what its worth.

Same here, when we go away, all the car keys are put in the safe.

i know what you mean, its dribble worthy, but surely only a little bit of the joy must come from looking at it. I'd feel gutted having something so clean and nice but hardly used it. You'd almost have to buy two to be totally satisfied. One to look at and one to drive.

Totally agree, one to give death and one to just sit there looking pretty.

I would never keep car keys in a safe while Im in, if someone is going to break in to steal the keys, they will more than likely harm you if they can't find them!

Is it common for people to have safes in their houses nowadays?

Not sure people would do that if they had spent all their time maintaining it.

Unless of course he was desperate for the cash.

he had just spent money on it according to what i've read.

why on earth would you arrange to sell it, get it cleaned just after its been valued (was probably spotless before) and then go on holiday and have mates etc post that the car has been stolen before you even know.
