We used to have a career centre where us school leavers would go (the ones that were told were failures because we weren't interested in learning only setting fire to tables etc)
They got me quite a few interviews but I was quite raw at the time as had only had 1 interview previously for a job in pot wash so it was hardly difficult.
Anyway do careers advice centres still exist?

I got my apprenticeship through the careers centre in York.
I applied for about 6 jobs and had 4 interviews before I got that job. To be fair to them, they encouraged the company to take me on as I was nearly 18.

Marc I would take you on if you were a nice handsome, ripe 18 yr old.
You could live under my desk like a Philippino boy and pleasure my length.

I honestly don't think they have them anymore, the Government has brainwashed all the kids in going to Uni or College that non of them actually want a job anymore.
They got me an interview with Co-Op Finance when I was 16 for junior admin assitant and I got the job off the back of that interview, but then I got another interview at where I am now and took that instead as it was 4k a year more at 16
They were the days

All these fucking uni twats, with a degree in psychology or some shit think they are the be all and end all and can end up in any job they want because they have a piece of paper

Will take the taxpayer a few years to be square by the time you deduct that from family allowance / tax breaks that the parents will have had bringing her up.
Still a waste of life. A healthy able-bodied young person who obviously doesn't realise how well off she is. Doesn't even mention being skint, I think she still lived at home?
Actually a bit selfish. I know she's depressed, I get depressed when I don't get stuff I apply for but I also know it's a marketplace and you've got to be on it.
Shame.

uni dropout with no experience? not surprised she was finiding it hard to find work. but i bet there was more to it.
for exampl, my mates got 10 gcse's and 4 a-levels but that counts for fuck all when looking for work, so hes gone back to get a vocational qualification.

Shame on the girl but cant help feeling her expectations were off the scale. Call centre for a multinational insurance company, bank etc jump all over fowk like that.
Although it may of not been where she wanted to start - foot in the door n all that!!

But these kids don't want a foot in the door, they want the Bentleys and the massive cribs and WAG lifestyles, they want to run before they can walk.
My cousin is going to be a carbon copy of that when she finally wakes up and realises that you have to pay your way through life not live off parents for the rest of your life.

She may have been really bad at interviews. Qual's only get you to that stage. Totally agree about the career advice, next to useless. I went to sign up at college with no idea, i just knew i was academic and had been told that was the way to go to do better in life. I've got a degree and no direction, untill recently.

Im totally against people killing themselves but I really feel sorry for her.
I am in the exact same position and probably applied for all sorts of jobs with nothing, not even one interview.
Have a process technology qualification, got a good CV/letter which has been looked at by all sorts of people.
Ive been in this position for 1.5 years now and luckly I look after my 1 year old son which isnt easy while my gf is the bread winner.
Infact I had a no letter today off a apprenticeship
It really gets me down because I want to work, her being so young is probably the resulting factor why she thought that was the best way out.
Doesnt help me that Im 3 miles away from 1700 job losses at corus and other losses at nieghbouring chemical companies
Another problem is that woman always wanted equality and now they have it but there is no jobs for men, and men being the "housewife" is on the rise.
Example. I got to the last stage for apprenticeship with National Grid and there was 2 other applicants against me, in the end the girl got the position. I found out her dad works for them and I imagine her being female helped her case.
A big saying is its who you know not what you no.... and I know no-one in word of mouth jobs

Another thing that winds me up , is that people like this bloke near me 67 years old and just retired even though he got offered to retire 2 years ago with 30+ service ( so big pay out ).
Most of the young generation like myself are best of counting this as our retirement because we`ll be working untill we die.

Say that to my Donna and she'd probably belt you one......
She's responsible for keeping 30 odd people in jobs, and paying about 5000 people, and running the accountancy firm.
Head.... I'd wind it back in if I were you
