If you wanted it sorting then trading standards will probably be more than happy to help you out. They helped me own that garage who sold me the Corsa with the shot engine when trying to use the sold as seen trick.

No they're £15 for a set of rear brake pads which will probably see you a good 40k miles.

I love all the garage generalisations that get put about when something goes wrong. I'm guessing you all praise the fuck out of mechanics when they fix your car for you then? Or probably just moan about how much its cost.

I give the one and only mechanic praise because i know hes shit hot and i give jobs to him as homers,as im a friend of the family its cheap rates to and know his work is to the highest standard. Dont praise any garages for fuck all because i dont use them.Do alot of work myself for peace of mind and to save alot of money.

Cars cost money to run and maintain. If a garage does a good job then i'm happy to pay that little extra. I've never really had work done to cars apart from servicing and don't really know any decent ones local. Always used main dealers for servicing. Vauxhall and Peugeot have always given me a good service if i'm honest.
As with my job in IT, things will always go wrong and i assume it is the same with cars. If the mechanic is honest and sorts out the problem then fair enough.

I'm guessing due to his career he doesn't really want to spend all his free time pissing about with cars.
I'm the same, if it costs a few hundred quid a year to maintain my car then i'll pay a garage to do it. I did start messing with my car a few weeks back but then come Monday, i'm knacked from the weekend. I've also driven my car once since all the work i put in. So what's the point.
