Engines not worth shit . Well the freshly rebuilt turbo is. Think we're gonna rebuild it, not sure if we're gonna hone it or not as the bores still look pretty fresh.

Misses mate, she's in right pain.
Good price for the Vectra mate, only thing I'd say is it needs a titanium ash tray. Looks clean though.

She should be, but she's not one for being lazy so she's hating having to sit down for once!

To be honest, I hope it works! I have fears that my skills don't stretch as far as building an engine! My mate sorted me out with a free block hone though so I didn't have to mess that up

Oil pump on;
Pick-up pipe, baffle and sump back on with sealant. Also fitted a new seal to the oil level sensor;
Stripped the head;
Then lapped the valves in;
Sadly after that my phone decided it didn't want to do anything (Someone forgot to charge it :doh: ). But gunk'd & G101'd the head then pressure washed it off), dried everything I could (everything I couldn't got a healthy spray of WD40. Built the head back up after giving the valves a quick clean and with new valve stem seals. Head is now on and torqued down. Then set about taking the bolts out of the inlet cams vernier pulley as it needed to be adjusted.
Bear in mind its supposed to be a 5mm allen bolt!
Ended up using a 5mm drill bit to get a center point, then 3.2mm to drill through as far as we could then smashed a T20 socket in to get them out. Only snapped one T20 (Sorry Stu lmao)
Now to hope normal headed allen bolts don't rub the timing cover as the ones from the pulley are shallow headed.

Right a proper update.
Stu suggested B&Q to see what they had in stock brackets wise, as my bracket making skills aren't the best :ninja:. Ended up getting two thick 90degree brackets, however after getting home discovered I could cut one of them up for brackets instead of two massive ones. But for £3 a bracket I can't complain.
Final brackets, painted in Hammerite's finest direct to rust paint;
Cooler mounted;
Sneaky try of Stu's widemouth;
We then had troubles getting oil pressure, one problem was my knackered oil pressure gauge that hadn't worked since it was in the corsa. Second problem was we (mainly me) had forgot to prime the oil pump! After making a rather bodge-tastic oil pump primer from garden hose and a gearbox oil tube, we got oil pressure almost straight away. After which we started the engine and much to my happiness there wasn't much smoke! Only a tad, which was to be expected with all the oil that I left in the cylinder bores to make sure everything was lubed up enough for starting.
Did a massive 0.5 of a mile that day :rock: and set-up the rad fan temperature as the last sensor/switch had died from getting wet.

A few weeks after getting the engine running, we took the car for a drive around Yorkshire, had to stay local as the misses is close to dropping :ninja:. But we got 60 miles done and actually felt good to drive the car again, despite me being nervous of breaking down etc. By this time it was one week till HMS too :ninja:.
At the same time I also started to sort out some of the cars audio. Up till now I'd had the sub powered by its standard built-in amplifier, which was "ok". But as I was convinced/decided I wanted a more "pram friendly" sub box it had to go. The sub will now be powered by the amplifier that powers the front components. So took out all the existing cables (power, earth, remote and RCAs) and ran some speaker cable from the amplifier to the sub box. As the amplifer is quite close to the headunit and I was using some ****e mass produced RCAs there was quite a lot of cable bundled up inside the dash I made some custom RCAs.
Connectors weren't cheap but thankfully Stu had some left over RCA cable so I was able to steal some :hi:.
Bought some right angled rca adaptors from Maplin, metal bodied and gold plated. Brilliant I thought, untill I got them and the centre pin wobbled on all of them:grrrrr:.
For anyone interested in what to avoid, it was these (http://www.maplin.co.uk/gold-plated-right-angled-phono-adaptor-45774).
Took them back, basically got told I was an idiot by the manager and that they were perfectly fine, even though we couldn't get them to work with-out wobbling them. Got a partial refund and walked out.
Ended up buying some eBay tastic ones, got all 4 I needed for the price of 1 from Maplin and they work perfectly!
Afterwards I ran speaker cable into the doors so to avoid Vauxhalls tiny speaker cables. This meant taking the air bag sensors out of the doors. I don't have a spare air bag ECU without side air bags enabled and last time we tried to disabled the side airbags Op-Com failed so came up with a solution. Traced the wires from the door looms to the foot wells and connected them there.
This is also what we have planned for the sub box;
At some point amoungst this I also wired in my Omega auto-dim mirror

Now we're at the day before HMS and a while ago some may remember I made some gauge pods out of Vectra center vents for a friend(Mick VXR) and in-return he gave me his old exhaust system and with my current system blowing badly at the flexi and generally being a bodge I decided to get it fitted. (Massive thanks to Stu for lending me the cash for fitting).
It's a tad raspy, but didn't cost too much money and sounds amazing on boost.
Finally, here the car is at HMS was a brilliant day out and will defo go again next year. Also I owe Stu (KaYoS) a massive thank you as without him a lot of this wouldn't even be possible :hi:
