it's the power to weight ratio, a 106 is smaller and lighter than a corsa.therefore it has an advange.
Put a heavier body (e.g corsa) on the 106 and the performance goes in the bin!

There has been much shit spoken on this thread! Whoever it was that said that the Corsa 1.6 engine is shit, doesnt know his head from his arse. Ok, you might know about your pug 106's, but putting down the 1.6 corsa engine is a mistake matey. It is a cracking engine and will be much happier to respond to mods than the PSA engine in your pig/pug. Saying it has no torque is crap too. Ok, its not to happy under 2k rpm, but reach up to 3k and you are pushed right into your seat with 102lb/ft as standard. Also the Corsa is a very heavy car compared to the french motors. As standard the corsa Sport 1.6 is around 1079kg. Way too heavy. Bring it down to around the weights of the 106 GTi and prepare for a very close race.

you need to have a go of a GT. goes from nothing to 158lb ft @ 3000rpm.

then think what it would be like in a TVR or something

What if you wheel spin badly. 2 secs or so lost. When you regain traction you might lose it and crash into a wall. You would be beaten by a tractor if that was the case.

Think before you post.

he he, madness. Thats what i like about my dads car. Hes got like 196 Nm at 5500, but most of that torque is still there at around 1500rpm. Pulls and pulls throughout the rev range. the variable valve timing helps too.

WTF you lot saying put the corsa body on the 106 is rubbish plz comment on the fact the 1.6 in the 106 develops 15bhp more as standard than the corsa engine. And anbody thats modded the TU engine knows they respond extremely well to mods. If 1.6 corsa engine are that good why the fuck are you lot getting transplants????

Because the 20xe engine is even better than the 16xe. Hey steve, its not only about max power you know, take into account torque, smooth power delivery, gearbox etc.

if u put a corsa body on a pug it wuld still win cos it has more bhp and torque has standard.

Its not all about engines and bhp tho, the gearbox on the 106 is setup very well, and the way the engines setup as nebody whos driven one will know, it revs up so quickly and reaches peak bhp at 6200rpm, all these factors mean its an all round quicker car the corsa sport, dont know y its so hard to admit, i wasnt slagging off the corsa engine at all i happen to think its a good solid reliable engine just lacks the performance that it would be desirable to have.

I agree with you as far as the 106GTi is a corking drive, certainly a lot more of a solid drive standard than the Corsa ever was. I have been a passenger in 106 GTi's before and i must admit they are very good handling wise too. The corsa is far too wafty as standard. Saying that, if vauxhall ever released the 16XE engine as it was intended, it would have no problem in anhiallating the 106 GTi. It was after all recorded at a tad over 155bhp during testing of the engine. It was restricted as vauxhall did not want it to over-shadow the 20xe engine at the time. So they bunged a rediculous intake manifold on it.

Define 'still win'?

Win what. The 'on paper' challenge. If that was all that was important then there is no point in motor racing of any kind as the most powerful car always wins.

A better way to put it would be 'should win'. This allows for reasoned argument.

it's like saying man u/arsenal will always beat blackburn because they have better players. We all know that doesn't alway happen. Why? because people have off days.

It's the same with cars, human and mechanical error comes into play.

I will happily state that the Pug 106 GTi should beat a corsa 1.6 16v but in reality it doesn't always happen.

the PSA 1.6 16V engine would get beyond 150-160 without major changes.

both engines respond to tunning.

exhaust manifold, inlet manifold, exhaust, cam and unichip will see the 1.6 corsa engine at 150hp

exhaust manifold, cams, exhaust unichip will see the PSA 1.6 16V engine around 150hp
