What is it with ford and rust, even on reasonably newish designs they still rust, I wouldn't call a 10YO design old really.

my car fell off the jack once as i was trying to position an axle stand and it ended up with me putting axle stand under the bumper
bumper took weight of the car, but it did bend up a fcuk load, never jacked so fast in my life

why madness? it didn't go through, didn't make the axle stand sink into the ground or anything.
as long as it's suported with a bit of wood or something flat it's fine.

Hate using scissor jacks. If I ever get a flat I'll be ringing someone to bring a trolley jack as been a few people bend the sills on their A3's due to the supplied scissor jacks slipping
My Corsa fell off the scissor jack once but luckily it still had the wheel on so no damage caused. They are so flimsy and unstable, I hate using them.

Did he jack the car up off the sump or rest the sump on an axle stand while working on the car? You just wouldn't do that, if for no other reason the fact that there are other bits to sit it on. The main reason you don't do it is because the sump's more than likely made of aluminium, meaning it's got the same breaking point as a folded over piece of tin foil. And if it's not aluminium it's still only going to be 2-3mm of metal. It's not guarenteed that it's going to poke through but it's more than likely.

iirc he jacked it up using the sump, not sure why i wrote about the axle stands, must have been thinking about something else.
it didn't go through so it didn't bother me. if it had he's be paying for a new one

I'm retarded too cos I always have trouble with them. Usually takes me several goes to get them to jack up properly, all I'm doing is putting it in the jacking point how you are meant to and they start leaning over and all sorts.
