Edition 30s are asa expensive to insure as R32s, and one makes a decent noise.

R32 would last longer imo, components are built to last

Meaning you will be buying one in 15 years time and doing posts about ridiculous prices on genuine parts

Should be easier to get bits in 15 years though as they're far more common.

i did joke with him i'd buy it from him, or just the engine would of been fine

My mate has a Mk5 Edition 30 with the full GTi Spec remapped. Its a very good compromise between looks, performance and running costs....all be it an expensive one. Think he paid £11k for one with 70k miles just over a year ago.

Not being funny, but how many 200000 mile 2.0 Turbo VAG engines do you see? How many do you see with 450+bhp on standard internals?

Didn't think so.

How many people buy a car to do 200,000 miles in though? Most I've done in one car is 60,000 before I changed.

Dont give a crap how long it will last after I've had it.

Seen a few on that milage

Also the 1.8T are good for over 300k

Just because its a VR6 engine doesnt mean its built to last anymore than other VW engines with similar performnce

What's the crack with the wheel bolts on that MK5?

Bolt covers on vag cars, probably just painted them

Don't let John hear milage that high, he might explode, is it possible for a car to do that many miles

The Mk4 R32 is not a particularly great car - plagued with the same problems as the rest of the Mk4 range and doesnt handle particularly well.

The Mk5 on the other hand - much much much better - the Mk5 in general is a better all round without half the problems the Mk4 has. Handles better than the Mk4 - probably due to the fact the Mk5 chassis was designed from the start to house the 3.2 lump where as the Mk4 wasn't.

If you had to choose between an 06plate R32 and an 04 plate M3 which would you choose and why?

Now please don't say it's the badge as that isn't what makes a car IMO.

M3, no contest. R32 wouldn't be able to touch it in a straight line or in the twisties as far as I know.
