yeah mate, thank fuck for that!!!

Even on the very few lines we charge VAT on we just swallow up the increase, but I don't think the sort of people we serve are too bothered about VAT or the increase tbh.

People need to stop droning on about a 2.5% VAT increase FFS, it's a small increase in cost in comparison with other things people buy like food, fuel, etc. which are always going up in price.

And @ the £1.25 Poundland comment - are people in this country so thick they can't use a fucking calculator?

The main thing that annoys me about this VAT increase is mobile phone networks. Have you seen their stupid prices now for tariffs etc?

£15.32, £30.64, £40.86 etc.

Why can't they either absorb the increase or round to the next major number so £16, £31, £41, that kinda thing?

I'd rather they just charged me £25.34 or whatever they do than more though Sam, at least they aren't using the VAT increase to add another 10% on their prices

I went shopping last night - the DVD I was going to buy before christmas was £3 before Christmas and £3 now; the clock I looked at was £35 before Christmas and £35 now - in reality, I think a lot of things will be soaked up by the retailer

Yeah but they aren't really "attractive" prices - people buy things more that might be £26.00 or £25.99 rather than some random amount like £25.34. If they did it properly they'd probably make even more money

TBH they find ways of charging you extra for stuff anyway.

I guess I'm probably moaning because my mobile tariff is now £30.64 instead of £30 like it was since September 2009 and my OCD mind can't handle that

In the grand scheme of things, it's nothing

It's not much. Imagine if you had no VAT to pay. It'd cost you £960 instead. 20% VAT is a hefty amount. Very annoying when you lose X amount to the tax man before you even get your wages too.
What a bollocks self-fulfillign prophecy imagine if there was no such thing as money then he could have the trailer for free

thats diff tho, Only Europe has VAT in the sense that we know it. In the US they have sales tax but it varies by state, it may (ive no idea) be really low as Income Tax could be higher.

Really does differe form country to country, its only the EU that makes us see it in one way

thewhole vat rising and people panicing is making me chuckle, for instance someone has paid a £7k deposit and saved themselves around £150 which he wont save as his cc interest will no doubt be more than that
