Don't blame the students, it's the system that allows it to happen

Im a student ...dont flame me lol!

The uni course I'm doing is only two days a week luckily which means I was able to keep my part time job so I haven't had to take out any maintenance loans. But I have got a loan for the tuition.

The thing is, not everyone's courses are only a couple of days a week like mine. When your often expected to do the same amount of work outside of your lectures as you do in them not everyone can fit in a part-time job as well. Hence why people have maintenance loans to allow them to live. You can't expect people not to want to go out and socialise every now and then imo just because they are students.

i hate students.

the majority jut see it as a way to get pissed and fuck around without actually having to commit to a job.

i put them in the same category as tossers on the dole for years and years and incapacity benefits cunts.

waste of space.

socialise by all means but i work with a guy who spent about 10k on loans getting high as a kite and drinking. you can't tell me thats socialising?

also, i can't afford to go out and get pissed every week because i have bills to pay. these uni students should face up to the facts they need to start thinking like an adult and stop relying on mummy and daddy or the government for loans and rent payments..

the system in my work allows me to take 3 periods of sick leave off every year. could be any amount of time and i get 6 months full sick pay.

do i choose to do it? NO.

why?

because i'm not a scrounger and work for my money. students should do the same.

Steve - you do realise that we do actually need students in this country? - you know, for public health, security and wealth ect ect In fact if we want to be on a par with other nations we actually need more people going to uni - especially from poor backgrounds. I assume you still want doctors ect - what exactly is your major problem with people wanting to be educated? You sound a bit obsessed with it at times - there are more serious things to worry about imo.

I agree many courses are a waste of time - but no where near the majority, we are talking tiny, tiny fractions - If you know people who are blowing their loan - they are either going to be skint by the end of term, or they have rich parents - more fool their parents for letting them waste the money if that is the case

If your opinion is framed by things you read on forums and facebook then maybe a bit more research would be good.

At my uni most people worked in part time or full time jobs to fund their course - the loan doesnt come anywhere near to funding it. I put my loan in a graduate loan after uni which I pay £300 a month and it will be gone by next year and I will be debt free. I havnt actually been able to use my degree for a job as I needed to work straight away to pay off my debt - I used my retail experiance to get a job straight away, I was working full time during my last 3 years of uni - the 4 people in my house were doing the same - it was fucking hard work .... when I pay my loan off I may then look at changing careers....uni isnt a doss im afraid - those that think it is wont make it to the end - ifyour parents arew not rich it is a major struggle to fund a four year course.

I personally have nothing but respect for anyone going to uni in the future knowing they will have a debt possibly of over £30k - I certainly wouldnt have gone if that was the case....many others from poor backgrounds wont go either - and that is a great shame

Do you really want a situation where only the rich go to uni - that means all your future politicians, judges, policemen ect ect will be from rich backgrounds - thats dangerous imo.

Many of the people I read slating students dont actually know what they are on about - they are just bitter that they are working and they dont think students are - In my opinion I find it easier being out of uni - I can go home, forget my job and enjoy my spare time, I dont constantly worry about money now and have fair less stress and pressure on me ... at uni I was at work in the day, at uni on my days off and working on coursework, reading in the evening - especially in the last two years ...It was fucking hard work I can assure you - much harder than my full time job now it.

Most of the idiots in London were not representative of students- they were arse wipes from further education colleges in London who fancied a ruck - If I was a student when that protest was on I wouldnt have been going purely because I couldnt have afforded to get to london most of the time.

Sports "Science" / Physio aka trainee PE Teachers are the worse; fuckers get SLC and then get cash for doing the course! And i use course lightly as they have about 3hrs a week of lecturers and spend most of the time out on the piss, unlike the rest that are doing 20-30+hrs a week of lecturers (+ that again outside for practicals, labs, essays, projects etc) a week

Ben G, like I said, I am a student and I work.

I live a way away from Uni, so when I go I have to do an 16hr day, plus when i get back I then have work to type up before I even think about coursework, sorry but how the hell is that scrounging and being a lazy student?

If its a tax funded loan then its as much everyones business as the MPs expenses or the loans given to banks.

Too much?! If you earn 1500 a month (this is an example), you end up paying back £22 a month...

Haven't read the whole thread.

Do people realise that you get a separate loan for tuition fees (which EVERYONE is entitled to) to the maintainence loan you get for living? The tuition fee loan goes straight to the uni, so changing the fees won't make a massive difference!!

Going out and getting pissed is part and parcel of uni life, people who don't like it are jealous.

i have absolutely no issue with students who are at uni studying a proper course, who will make a proper way of life in a niche profession, that is backed up by a proper degree, im fully aware there is a portion of student population that fits this category.

however the majority is made up of the cunts im talking about, who are doing mickey mouse course, like psychology and health and social care who are using it as an excuse to spend 3 years getting pissed and avoiding moving on with there life to get a job
