The way he went round that rally stage, I would say he most likely was a rally driver.

brilliant episode i thought.

boris becker was boring but the car bits were awesome.

the transit never seen it before, didn't even think it'd have a cossie engine in never mind an xj220 one

also, the rally stage the stig is definitely a rally driver i'd have thought.

He did; his book states that a lot of manufacturer's used their own test drivers in Stig suits and He didn't always play the role of the stig although he was the technical advisor especially with the 'Star in the Reasonably Priced Car'.

I have it on VERY good authority that it was Kris Meeke, an he isn't the 'usual' Stig.

It's not just the engine iirc, it's a Transit shell plonked on top of XJ220 running gear etc.

Ben Collins has featured as himself in a few of the old Top Gear episodes.

Remember the one with the skydiver landing in the car ? He was the driver.

And the episode with the kid on the skateboard being raced againsted the Evo, and bowler wild cat?

The Ice hockey match ?

All ben collins.

Although Ben didnt jump the Skidoo off the ramp it was some Swedish snowmobile champion that did.

Good old Dave !!!

I've just stuck Ben Collins into Wikipedia, and it says he has done a load more work for Top Gear as himself, and seen racing other cars along side with Clarkson and Hammond.

On a separate occasion, following an accident involving Richard Hammond in September 2006, the Health & Safety Executive report into the event recorded that Collins had "worked closely with Top Gear as a high performance driver and consultant" and had prepared a briefing for Richard Hammond preceding the event.
