Yeah fuck it, it's only a Ferrari. £129 combined MOT and Service down at Kwik-Fit with a voucher from the paper.

If I had a ferrari I'd prob not even tax / insure / mot or service it.

Would just rag it... give it an occasional oil change myself every year - if police try to pull me over for no insurance, I'd out run them... afterall I'm driving a ferrari

john-d I think you should do this too.

The money from the adverts on youtube would probably pay for the ferrari

I don't think people are saying you'll never afford one, rather that you're not being realistic when thinking about it.

They're giving your good advice, which is they're expensive to run.

If it was easy to do it, we'd all do it.

£600 a month probably won't cover it. If nothing went wrong then aye, I guess it's possible. But if your engine needs a rebuild, that £7,200 won't cut it.

Insurance, fuel and tax would cost more than that per month if you added it all up. You'd be fucked if anything as serious as an engine rebuild needed doing, it would sit in a garage losing value for 5 years until you've saved all you money up again.

£600pm

500 miles at 20mpg = 25 gallons = £150
Insurance - probably £1000py? Less if it's classic? = £83pm
Tax/MOT = £20pm

So £350 spare pm.

Set of tyres would probably cost you 6 weeks, service bits 2 weeks, so for the other 10 months you're OK.

That's only £3500 to fix something major though, which you would have to do. The suggestion that you can leave it in a garage if it breaks is a rather silly one. For one it's probably losing money and secondly not running it will introduce more problems.

I doubt a 348 or 355 will depreciate much. If you had one & it broke you'd just need to get it fixed whatever the cost, even if that involved taking a loan or CC fix to sell & learn from the experience!! Would be awesome to have owned one even if just for a while I can imagine!!

I'm not convinced, it's just old, unless they're built very well indeed it would need other stuff. And you can't just nip to a scrappy for a window regulator or bits of trim.

I just think it would break. Like my Disco needs an ignition barrel and they're hens teeth second hand because they all break, and hundreds of pounds from a dealer. Different to donning the boiler suit and going on a hunt.

Might be fine, might be an absolute pit.

I have a 30yr old Porsche 911.

Its doesnt cost mucg to run, but its not a Ferrari

Insurance is £150-220 a year
Tax is £110 ish. Its only out for 6mnths
MOT is £40
Its needed 2 new tyres in the time I've owned it (thats about 6 years ) - £400
Its needed a new exhaust - £600
Bits n bobs - New sun roof mechanisim and seals - £200

Thats about it to be honest - Its out most economical car, so doesnt really register on the fuel scale

Its gets VERY limited use though, and hasnt seen the road this year yet - too busy.

On average I'd guess 1200miles per year for the last 15years.

Its needign some work to keep in good condition now though. Some new bushes, susp and a cosmetic tidy up.

I have NO DOUBT that a Ferrari would be a different story though, esp a dirt cheap one.

I think people on here underestimate how much a normal performance car can cost. Ffs how much has corsash spent on the rx7 or barndoor on his scooby
