I have buddy, after 1am on a near deserted motorway with just myself in the car and not with a space saver fitted.

I'm guessing the circumstances were different in your case.

I think even you knows there's a time and a place.

Two very different circumstances I feel, unless he had a space saver on also.

Tyres are rated to certain speeds for a reason.

Pretty sure your insurance would be invalid at over 50mph with a space saver?

Totally agree with that, but he could have been in the same situation.

Yes the chances of getting a blow out with a space saver are slightly higher, but then you could also get a blow out doing 160mph on normal tyres.

Pretty sure your insurance would be invalid also if they proved you were doing more than double the speed limit regardless of what wheels you had on.

Its just all a bit pot kettle black.

Erm mine was at 3am down the M2, didn't go past a single car during the period I was doing above 80mph... Mainly worried about police more than taking out a family though.

Hypocrite...

i had a blowout at 80-90 and that was scary enough, so 140 would be pretty bad i imagine.

IIRC space savers are only spot welded, hence the rating, tyre would probably be fine.

And keep some weight over the backend, makes them handle loads better

the surface area of a spacesaver is tiny compared to a normal tyre which means the braking distances will increase and obviously cornering grip is reduced, which is why there is a speed limit on the spacesaver

How is me driving a car with high performance tyres and built to handle very high speeds the same as driving a diesel skoda with a space saver fitted???

If it was the same circumstances regarding the motorway that late at night then that's fair enough and I apologise however as you didn't even mention that in any of your posts that leaves you wide open to criticism.

tbf no point in getting wound up eck as he is blatantly lying and just doing this for attention as he knows everyone will cry and bitch about it, thus giving him the attention he craves.

I was always under the impression space savers were limited because of the reduction of grip when braking and cornering rather then them not being able to cope with the speed.

Having said that, this thread smells almost as much of bullshit as the R6 one.

It's illegal to do more than 50mph with 2 different size wheels/Tyres on the same axle. Your a knob for doing it, maybe an accident will teach you a big lesson. Shit way to learn though..

So if you fit 2 space savers on the rear you could do more than 50? Surely not?

Well no obviously not because they're rated to 50mph. You could try it and then post it on an open forum and look like a dick.

The way you said it made it sound like they're limited to 50mph cause of different wheel/tyre size being on the same axle. But that's obviously not the only reason.

Spacesavers look a similar size to a motorcycle wheel, I guess if something went wrong he thinks he could just stick his foot out and rescue it like he does on his bike.
