DP - I think youre totally forgetting the fact that Hussein and the Ba'ath party controlled Iraq, the world is a much better place without the kind of people who use mustard gas to kill 15,000 innocent people because they didnt like their religious views not to mention the over one million people they killed throughout a vcious campaign to rid their country of kurds
as people are tryign to say, no-one is suggetsign Iraq was in any way repsonsible for 9/11 but merely that what happened then was used as a reasonable excuse to get rid of Hussein and try and return Iraq to their own people

Oh and PS, these people want to live in our country and burn the flag of one of our greatest allies in the streets of our capital? Lets set fire to them and see how they like it.

After reading through this thread, I have come to the conclusion that every race/religion in the world is innocent.
Except the Americans and the Jews?

you seem to have forgot a few things too mate...the Ba ath party wouldnt have been half as dangerous without the backing of the American military for pretty much the whole of the 1980's and beyond. They probably wouldnt have had any chemical weapons to use either .... in fact ..the Ba ath party would probably have lost control in the region decades before 9/11 if it wasnt for american and English support
The Ba'ath party was in Iraq from the 70's, Throughout the 1980s, Hussein's Iraq was the sworn enemy of Iran. America was convinced a revolution in Iraq could see a domino effect where the whole middle east came under the control of Shiite Muslim extremists.....That was enough to turn Hussein and the Ba'ath party into a strategic partner and for U.S. diplomats in Baghdad to routinely refer to Iraqi forces as "the good guys," in contrast to the Iranians, who were depicted as "the bad guys."
Among the people instrumental in tilting U.S. policy toward Baghdad during the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war was Donald H. Rumsfeld - Bush Juniors defense secretary. Documents show that Rumsfeld traveled to Baghdad at a time when Iraq was using chemical weapons on an "almost daily" basis in defiance of international conventions. Not only that but America gave Saddams Ba'ath party cluster bombs and chemical weapons at a time they knew he was using them on the Kurds...they did this through a chilian front company. Rumsfeld shook Saddams hand in public after we knew for sure they had used chemical weapons in the region. Yet suddenly in the mid 2000's Rumsfeld decides that Saddam and the Ba'ath party were soo dangerous we need to have a second Gulf war .... despite Iraq being weaker than it had been for decades ...wonder why he suddenly changed his mind on Sadddam and needed a war so quick they were prepared to lie to the world on the reasons for it? Basically because it was obvious Saddam had lost control in Iraq and he was close to being removed in an Iraqi revolution.
America kept the Ba'ath party in business, they kept them armed and they made sure no revolution would take place in Iraq that might remove saddam and the Ba'ath party. You seem to think now Saddam is gone that a more moderate party will take over running the country .... the likely hood is they will be even less western friendly than saddam was .... the chances are saddam and the Ba'ath party would have been removed by revolution not long after we invaded .... similar to what has happened in Egypt and other Arab spring countries ..... America was terrified an Iraq revolution would result in a complete loss of American control in the region .... we could control saddams iraq with a no fly zone, inspectors and sanctions .... if they had a revolution in Iraq, america would lose control - therefore they were desperate for a war in Iraq... this not only gave them a base in the region, but it gave them first dibbs on iraqs oil, and lots of rebuilding contracts after the war....something else Rumsfeld, Bush and Bush senior did very well out of
Basically the Ba ath party were our friends, then after the first Gulf War they became enemies who we had control of ...until it looked like they might be removed by a revolution in Iraq post 9/11 ....then we had to get in and remove them ourselves, making sure we kept control of our interests in that region
