But you still need to go to college either way.

see if you can get yourself in to heavy plant engineering, night be difficult with a motor vehicle qualification but its not unheard of, couple of people in my last job were time served mechanics then started out in the quarries servicing, learned enough and got a job with a dealer, current job has people who served their time on cars, lorries and busses and now work with rail plant
plenty of money to be made in those industries and they arent a million miles away from the things you have already learned

not really, sometimes you just have an nvq assesor depending on the trade. stop taking away from my point that without the experiance the qualification is useless in trms of getting a job. hence going to college alone is useless

i take it you personally know everyone whos been to college rather than do an apprenticeship? ive got 3 mates in main dealers who got the jobs after qualifying through college alone and a few mates from my course who have jobs, one of them was working in a garage part time in third year. my motor qualification got me onto an engineering degree at uni too.
but yeah, useless

Also the fact that you dont have an NVQ assesor on lower level courses (level 1-2). As they are usually City and Guilds. NVQ is usually level 3, so you still need to go to college.

You also cant work in most things now like mechanics and building trades unless you fully qualified or working with someone who is. Especially for things like gas. We had people at college who had been doing their trades for 20+ years but hadnt been to college to get the qualifications. So they were at college to do the courses because overwise they couldnt carry on doing what they do.
I do agree that experience is needed and its important but you cant say college is useless because it only provides the qualifications and not the experience.

Experience is vital but you do need college training/certificates as a rule.
My lad works in a (fairly small) local garage and has learnt more there than nearly all the apprentices who work at main dealers.
I think the problem with main dealers is they're too scared to let you loose on fancy modern stuff until you've been there for ages. Any decent independant garage will want lads getting stuck in asap so they can help out.

lol so lets get this straight... you did 2 years or so at college so you could apply to be an apprentice which is what you couldve/shouldve done in the first instance..... yea college is ace

Obviously you still look for an apprenticeship while your at college
You can switch from full time group to apprentice group anytime while your at college.
Either way you still have to go college.

No i applied for all the apprentice's jobs before college. Twice. Got no where. Did level 2. They told us level 3 was getting cancled. So i applied again. Twice. Got no where. Told us level 3 was on again. Did level 3. Come out with a diploma qualification. Applied for a job. And have got a interview with audi on wednesday
Cheers mate, never had a job interview in my life. Need to go buy a suit i think

Disagree.
If there's no work about, a job comes up and two people applied for it, who do you think would be more likely to get it, the one who went to college for two or three years, or the one who sat on his (or her) arse and did sod all?
