You said in the first post, you masked up the centre part of the wheels as you don't want paint on there, but then you put paint where the tyre bead is going to sit, which can cause problems in getting a good seal.

I've sprayed far enough round that the tyre will be sitting on new paint. I won't be any different than then the alloy was sprayed in the original silver.

Looks good though mate, I like the colour. Will do well as a set of spare wheels. One question though - when you now spray the fronts, won't you get overspray on the insides?
Don't forget to leave them a couple of weeks or so before having the tyres fitted otherwise the paint will still be too soft.

When the fronts are srayed the over spray will go on the inner but won't be noticed when I lacquer the fronts up.. then waft another coat in the inner.
I've planned on leaving them a good week to cure before the tyres go on.

I would have used white primer, it would have come out alot brighter. I think they'll look good though
the number of coats they'll have it wouldn't matter if white or grey was used.
I think they look quite bright in day light as it is

Fair enough. When I did my bright coloured wheels they were quite dull in grey primer despite loadsa coats. With white primer I needed sunglasses to look at em!

came back from Golf at Lunch time.. tee off as 7:17am... it was just light!! lol
Got the wheels out and nibbed down and gave a 2nd coat to the face of the wheels.
Using the different brand paint (AutoCare) isn't as good as the HOLTS spray cans.. but as thse were just the first couple of coats it doesn't matter as when the HOLTS paint comes back into stock I'll be finishing them with that... its so much easier to use as it sprays 'finer' and generally better, if you get what I mean about spraying.
after washing the car this evening I wanted to offer up the alloy to see how it goes with the white car..
I think it will go ace

not when youget the rubber back on, don't forget whatson now are 19"
most have 17"as they are the standard wheel for the STi, anything else would be 18"

I got two more coats on the face late this afternoon.
2nd coat today went on about 10/15mins after 1st coat, so it allows it to fuse into each other.
I have to say the more coats going on the better they look.
Will get final coats on tomorrow before the lacquer goes on.
Now looking for some nice centre caps.

The finishing coats of the shine green went on this afternoon... 15mins between coats, then after about 45mins the 1st coat of lacquer went on after removing the newspaper making around the centre.
Two hours later a 2nd coat of lacquer.
The pictures don't do the finish justice to how good they look 
A final lacquer coat will go on tomorrow to finish them off. Then a general check round to make sure all is good then I'll leave a few days to harden off before the rubber goes back on.

You've done a decent job, question is how much have you paid in total for the paint? Only reason I ask if a refurb costs £200 to a company, and doesn't involve the man hours you've put in so might have been cheaper to do that?

I sprayed an rd125 Ford signal green once. Piece of shit it was, rode it up the drive in front of my mate showing off, it wheelied uncontrolled, so I jumped off it and tried to get it down by running behind still holding on. The seat which I attached using parcel tape fell off and it went straight into the back of my old man's escort, followed by me colliding with the bare metal where the seat fell off

The Wheel Specialist did my wifes 17" wheels last year in their standard colour Anthricite, that cost just ovr £250.
so far, with the can I've bought its cost me £70.88 in primer/paint/lacquer.
I've still got a nearly a full can of green (£3.99 or 300ml)
well over 50% of a lacquer can that has 25% extra free (£4.99 - normal can is 500ml)
and some etch primer left (£6.99)
I've given more coats than you'd need, but I wanted to make sure they've been covered well 
So you could take off 3 can of paint.
Also I bought two cans that were only 150ml @ £4.50 each!!!!
As I'd ran out of the HOLTS paint and wanted to get a base coat of green on for the weekend.
Take that extra cost off too!
If I'd have got the the lacquer with 25% extra free in all the cans instead of just one can, I'd have just bought two, which were ££4.99 each. the two cans I bought that weren't with 25% free were £5.99!!! :?
I'd think about £50 would paint the wheel.
Tyre removal and re fit/balance and re valve is £48.
The wheel Specialist charge the same.
It's still cheaper than getting them done else where, also spraying up is only 20mins per coat. So there's not been too much time doing them, cleaning them down took the longest, being a couple of hours.
Ps.. I couldn't justify £300ish (having them painted a non standard colour like Green) to have them painted. £100ish I could cope with

That's fair :-) can't believe your refurb place charges for tyre fitment/removal aswell though, everywhere round here includes it!

This afternoon I took my alloys to get the rubber fitted. I hope to fit these to my car nearer the end of November when the winter gets here.
Paint/lacquer felt hard enough and I had the thought if it were to come off it would either come off now or later if I left them longer to cure anyway.
Seeing I wanted to get the tyres back on, I though they could harden off once the tyres were on.
Really pleased with the final look. The tyre fitter was very careful not to damage anything on the wheel, only a couple of scuffs of paint on the inner rim of the alloy, mainly from the clamps that hold the alloy in place whilst the tyre gets put on. Once I got home I lightly sanded the scuffs and touched up the parts of the inner rim that needed touching up.. I just used a fine sign writing brush... the scuffs were that small.
When Richard balanced them he used the stick on weights and fitted on the inside of the alloy

Maybe the wheels are too wide
Offering them up against the 19" that are on the car now, you can see that the overall height of the tyre and 17" alloy matches the height of what the 19" is, hopefully there shouldn't be any large gaps between tyre and wheel arch when the Green wheels go on the car.
Really pleased with the DIY out come using rattle cans, in all I've spent £70.88 on etch primer (2x 400ml cans £6.99 each) + paint (6x 300ml £3.99 each + 2x 150ml £4.50 each!!!!cans) + lacquer (2x 500ml cans £5.99 each/ 1x 500ml + extra 25% extra free £4.99!!). Knowing what I know now, I'd say it could be done with less spray paint (as I over bought and gave more coats that really needed, could have done it with 5-6 300ml cans, if I'd have bought just two lacquer cans that had 25% extra free I'd have had plenty).
Lets say I could have used £50 on materials, so it could have cost me £12.50 per alloy to paint.
Tyre removal/re-fit + new valve and balance cost me £48.
I've still spent a lot less than having them powder coated in Green.
If anyone fancies doing their own alloys I'd say go for it... just make sure you prep well, buy a quality etch primer and quality brand spray cans, as it makes it so much easier to spray.

how comes you didn't just keep the tyres on and mask the tyres up? would've saved you 50 quid.
also, thought they were going to have winter tyres on? being winter wheels.
