I've been in New York for Xmas day and New Year, is pretty tremendous, definitly recommend avoiding Times Sq for New Year though, you'll have far more fun at an Irish bar or at least I did.

I went to Iceland last week and had the best holiday so far of my life, highly recommend it :-D We got a helicopter right to the top of Eyjafjallajokull (the volcano that erupted last year and caused all of the flight delays in Europe) and got out and walked around, it was AMAZING.

there was still so much steam there that we lost the helicopter for a few minutes and had to wait for the wind to pick up to clear it again!

and we saw some glaciers

geysers

and waterfalls

My favourite part though was flying over the mid Atlantic ridge plate boundary :-)

and on the last night there we got to see the Northern Lights, which was a fantastic experience.

Plus everyone speaks English and is really friendly

Quite ambitious mate you cant manage that in 2 weeks. Just as a comparison I worked out an itinery for my trip down the east coats and thats going to take 3 and bit weeks!
If you have that much time you will be spending many nights traveling by bus at night. Probably manage to do brisbane to the blue mountains then the east coast down to Melbourne at very best!
I'm planning an America east cost drive
Sandiego
Yellow stone park
Grand canyon
Vegas
San Francisco

Flights and the hotel (Raddisson Blu 1909 in Reykjavik) for 3 nights was about £1050 for 2 people, but I must have spent at least another £4k while I was there - although to say we were trying to do it on a budget is obviously a bit silly
Some things out there are really cheap (like we hired a car for a day for £34) but other things are realllly expensive, mainly food in restaurants. We went for a quick bite to eat in a place a bit like Nandos and for 2 main courses and half a bottle of house wine it came to almost £78

Robbo, we looked at the 101 hotel but a lot of the user reviews put us off. We ended up staying in the suite in the Raddison 1909 - I'll get some pics up later for you

Off to koh samui on sat then that's it for this year.
Hopefully see more of Thailand next year, do the annual trip to Portugal. If I'm still with the mrs will be going to see her family in Switzerland, watch her do the Paris marathon, then hopefully get to Madrid again, maybe Barca or Berlin for some long weekends.

£2700 of that was for a 5 hour helicopter tour though and £275 on a meal in a fancy restaurant, so if you take away those two things it was loads cheaper
